Position Description
Hours: 20-37.5 hrs/week
*This position can be full-time or part-time depending on the availability and needs of the successful candidate.

You think in the big picture and create a vision for Children’s Ministry. You have an innate ability to nurture children and present the Bible in an age-appropriate way. You are a natural connector and are passionate about partnering with parents in parenting their children. You also leverage your leadership skills in providing direction to staff and volunteers.

At HHAC we have a supportive work environment where we take the time to know you on an individual level. We understand that your personal life is just as important as your work life, and offer a flexible environment. The hours of this position are primarily done during office hours of 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, Monday to Friday. In addition, this position will oversee Children’s Ministry programming during Sunday morning services and for special events as required.
Responsibilities Include:
General Oversight
- Develop and implement HHAC vision and direction for Children’s ministry
- Stay current in teaching techniques, biblical curriculum development and facility tools to enhance teaching
- Develop a seamless ministry track so that a child’s progress follows logical and grade-sensitive exposure to the Bible
- Understand the culture of the times and the church to ensure that relevant biblical teaching is communicated to children
- Maintain responsibility for church children from birth through grade six
Supervision of Staff
- Provide oversight, leadership and direction Children’s Ministry Assistant and children’s ministry volunteers
- Recruit, develop and mentor staff and volunteers
- Evaluate, assign/reassign and instruct volunteers and staff in children’s ministry needs
Care and Nurturing of Children
- Identify materials that are biblically relevant to various ages
- Maintain relevant knowledge on techniques and methods to communicate biblical truth to various ages
- Use solid understanding of the Bible and biblical theology to determine how to best meet children’s needs
Family Care
- Maintain a solid knowledge of how to help parents in parenting including, but not limited to, how to teach children biblical truth, forms of proper child discipline, helping children cope with divorce and crisis management
- Maintain resource material and connect with appropriate persons to facilitate family care
Qualifications Include:
- Strong personal relationship with Jesus Christ as evidenced by spiritual maturity and a close, consistent walk with Him
- Demonstrated heart for children and children’s ministry
- 5-7 years experience working with children’s ministry programs in a church setting
- Education in children’s ministry, early childhood education or a related field
- Undergraduate degree in theological studies from an accredited evangelical seminary is an asset
- Be accredited with The Christian and Missionary Alliance Canada (CMAC) or hold education, experience and testimony that will qualify the successful candidate to be accredited with the CMAC
- Possess strong leadership skills with both staff and volunteers
- Strong computer and organizational skills
- Ability to be flexible, adapt to change and demonstrate calm under pressure
- Sound verbal and written communication skills
- Proven ability to function effectively in a team environment
- Proven experience connecting with individuals from varied backgrounds
- Ability to be self motivated and work independently
