Position Description
MCC BC is looking for someone who has a heart to support newcomers to Canada in developing their financial, employment, and life skills and has program coordination and facilitation experience to head up an expansion site as the New Foundations Program Coordinator, Westshore.
The Program Coordinator is responsible for the initiation (set up) and delivery of the 9-month New Foundations program that involves a matched savings component for newcomers to Canada, facilitating workshops around financial literacy, employment readiness, life skills training as well as community kitchens. The Coordinator works with volunteers to assist participants with ongoing learning and mentorship, and partners with a church for its delivery.
This is a part-time, salaried position (12 hours/week) requiring flexibility to occasionally work outside of regular working hours. This is a 1-2 year term position, with a possible extension. The position is based at the Langford or Colwood training site. The Coordinator should be located in the Victoria - Westshore area or have strong connections and familiarity with resources on the Westshore.
QUALIFICATIONS
All MCC workers are expected to exhibit a commitment to: a personal Christian faith and discipleship; active participation in a Christian church or Christian community; and nonviolent peacemaking.
Required:
- Undergraduate degree and/or a combination of related education, training and experience in multi-cultural settings
- Two years’ experience facilitating in an adult education environment
- Ability to work sensitively with participants of diverse cultural backgrounds
- Ability to recruit and work effectively with volunteers and show appreciation for their contributions
- Ability to network with other service providers and build collaborative relationships
- Strong relational skills with the ability to encourage, instruct and involve adult learners
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Willingness to occasionally work outside of regularly working hours
- Ability to operate in standard workplace computer programs / Computer experience required with proficiency in MS Office
- Solid organizational skills with attention to detail
- Respect for and discretion in dealing with confidential material
- Valid BC Driver’s Licence along with a satisfactory Driver’s Abstract
Desired:
- Experience with financial literacy, life skills and/or employment readiness programs is preferred
- Program management experience preferred, including budgeting and reporting
- Competence in other languages is an asset
