Camp Homewood is also looking for a Red Seal Chef to join the team onsite, year round as a Food Service Manager. Besides the stunning location and great staff we have a brand new dining room and state of the art professional kitchen!
About:
Camp Homewood is non-denominational Christian summer camp and event/conference centre located on 200 acres of stunning oceanfront property on Quadra Island, BC. The island is a short ferry ride from Campbell River on Vancouver Island. Homewood is well known for its summer Family Camps and quality programs for children and youth. Our mission is to present the gospel in an unthreatening atmosphere through quality programs and caring relationships, using God’s creation. Camp Homewood (also known as the Pacific Coast Children's Mission/PCCM) has been serving children, families, and adults since 1944. Camp Homewood operates year-round as a non-profit para-church ministry with a primary goal of reaching children and youth that live on Vancouver Island and in Greater Vancouver.

Position Overview:
The Food Service Manager functions as Camp Homewood’s Head Cook. They direct the overall operation of Food Services including: customer service; personnel management; menu planning; purchasing, receiving and storing food; food preparation and presentation; cleaning, sanitation, and record keeping. The The Food Service Manager will work cooperatively with all members of Homewood’s staff team to through their work, attitudes and activities
The Food Service Manager is responsible for building a team that strives for excellence in the preparation and presentation of appealing, well balanced and nutritional meals for groups of 30 – 280 people. Food is to be served on schedule and at its peak. Working to deadlines is critically important! The Food Services department serves approximately 40,000 meals during the summer camping season and approximately 40,000 meals during the ‘off-season’.normal.
This position is physically demanding and the hours are long. Applicants must be able to lift 50 pounds and work on their feet for an 8-hour shift.The intensity and focus of this position varies seasonally,and is not a typical ‘9:00 – 5:00’ job. This position will be expected to lead shifts. Weekend work is normal.

Positions Supervised: Assistant Red Seal Chef (Cook II), Interns, Volunteers
Remuneration:
On site housing and base salary to be determined by the Board. This is a full time missionary position and requires raising additional personal support.
Facilities:
Our kitchen was recently renovated and expanded. Working with a specialized architect we added 1500 square feet - doubling it’s size! Besides being significantly more spacious we also upgraded our equipment. New equipment includes state of the art appliances such as 2 Combi Ovens, a Tilting skillet, a Doyon Baker oven, a Bun Divider/Rounder, and more! Our walk-in fridge and cooler ensure we are able to meet the demands.
Preferred Qualifications:
Education & Experience
- A Diploma in Food Service Management (or other relevant training from a recognized institute) is mandatory.
- Red Seal Certification as a Professional Cook is preferred.
- Three years of demonstrated leadership/managerial experience in food services.
- Food Safe I and II certification.
- Prior camp or conference center experience is an asset.
- A team player with a proven record as a leader committed to helping others succeed.
- Excellent math, budgeting and oral and written communication skills.
- A valid class 5 driver’s license and clean drivers abstract.
- Must maintain Food Safe I and II certification plus Standard First Aid (Level I). Training will be provided if the candidate does not already have First Aid.
Successful candidate must provide a clean Criminal Record Check upon appointment and periodically throughout their employment.
All staff must be able to work with and minister to the volunteer high school and college age young people who serve at camp. Responsibilities are to be carried out in a way that will honour Jesus Christ and comply with the Pacific Coast Children’s Mission’s Statement of Faith, Code of Conduct and Mission Statement.
