Position Description
St. Paul’s Bloor Street (SPBS) is a vibrant Anglican church located in the heart of downtown Toronto. We are looking for a professional, outgoing, dependable and enthusiastic individual with a passion for people and a strong desire to serve, learn and grow. As a member of our ministry staff, the Youth Minister will report to the Senior Minister (Rector) and be responsible for planning, coordinating, and leading the youth ministry program, including ages 11 through 17, both on Sunday mornings and gatherings throughout the week. As the leader, the Youth Minister is highly relational as a pastor who prays and interacts with the parents, youth, ministry team and other church members to ensure the ministry program integrates with the overall ministry of SPBS. This role is one of equipping—our youth, their families, and leaders to serve as followers of Jesus and participate in the rhythms of Christian life together.
Key Functions:
Leadership
- Organize, coordinate, and lead effective youth ministry gatherings/programs through worship, biblical teaching and discipleship
- Disciple youth through personal connection and large group meetings
- Engage youth in activities and games to establish connections with other youth peers
- Facilitate contextually appropriate and relevant small group discussions
- Meet with youth individually or in groups outside of ministry gatherings to further develop personal relationships and encourage their spiritual growth
Ministry Coordination
- Develop and coordinate engaging and interactive initiatives for Sunday and Wednesday gatherings, special events, and other outings throughout the year
- Plan and coordinate the annual youth retreat, including all logistics of transportation, camp rentals, and guest speakers
- Facilitate the annual process of confirmation classes for interested youth
- Recruit, empower, and encourage regular volunteers for various youth gatherings
- Address community needs by partnering with local programs to develop and plan youth ministry outreach initiatives
Administration
- Maintain frequent contact with students and parents, keeping them informed of all ongoing activities
- Other duties as required
Qualifications:
- A baptized follower of Christ, active in the life of the Church and regularly attends worship when able
- Commitment to the mission, vision, and values of St. Paul’s Bloor Street
- One who is gifted and called to youth ministry, loves Jesus Christ and young people, and has a passion for evangelism and outreach, both personally and at the ministry level
- The ability to independently lead worship through music is a plus
- A self-motivated person, capable of creating and executing events for the youth ministry, possessing relational skills with students, parents, and staff
- Organized, punctual, values boundaries, ability to recruit, coordinate and empower persons in ministry
- Relational style of leadership and ministry; able to work as part of a ministry team
- Willing to submit to a police background check and comply with the policies of St. Paul’s
Availability:
- This position is for up to 35 hours per week with a yearly salary (to be negotiated)
- Core defined hours on Sunday: 8 am – 1pm and Wednesday: 6 pm – 9:30 pm
