Position: Middle School Teacher at Mt. Salem Christian School
Hired by: Principal
Responsible to: Principal
Hours of Work: 7:55am - 3:55pm with additional hours occasionally for training, meetings, or school events
Salary: dependent on experience and level of education
Mission Statement: Our mission at Mount Salem Christian School is to provide a high level of Bible based academic instruction, and to partner with parents as we educate 'the whole child'; equipping and training the students for a life of obedience to His calling in this world as an image-bearer of Jesus Christ.

- Maintain a personal appearance that is a Christian role model of cleanliness, good taste, and in agreement with school policy.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Teach Bible class daily to your assigned class. This includes prayer, Bible memorization, and a prepared lesson that meets the criteria set by the school.
- Prepare for and teach the subject assigned in the contract at the beginning of the year or any substitution that has been agreed upon in advance.
- Plan, prepare, and deliver lesson plans and instructional materials that facilitate active learning.
- Integrate biblical principles and the Christian philosophy of education throughout the curriculum and activities by building on a biblical-worldview foundation in every area.
- Attend staff meetings regularly and on time.
- Have adequate knowledge of computer technology in order to post grades, communicate with parents, and present lessons using classroom technology devices.
- Meet everyday stress with emotional stability, objectivity, and optimism.
- Use acceptable English in written and oral communication. Speak with clear articulation.
- Utilize teaching techniques to achieve curriculum goals within the framework of the school’s
- philosophy.
- Cooperate with the administration in implementing all policies, procedures, and directives governing the operation of the school.
- Assess the learning of students on a regular basis and maintain regular and accurate attendance and grade records to meet the demands for a comprehensive knowledge of each student’s progress.
- Recognize the need for good public relations. Represent the school in a favourable and professional manner to the school’s constituency and the general public.
- Attend and participate in scheduled devotions, staff development, faculty, and parent-teacher meetings.
- Perform other duties which may be assigned by the administration. Keep in mind that our work is for Him: “Wherefore we labor, that, whether absent or present, we may be accepted of Him” (2 Corinthians 5:9). We should agree that leading, teaching, or working in this school ministry is a privilege. Remember that we stand before our students and their parents representing the Lord.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Prepare lessons and teach assigned subjects to students on a daily basis
- Manage the classroom in all aspects
- Prepare classroom for school year
- Arrange furniture in way best conducive for learning to take place.
- Decorate classroom in an appropriate manner
- Organize and label student books
- Prepare lessons
- Conduct open house meetings with parents and students
- Attend orientation and training meetings
- Help with chapels and assemblies: singing, skits and/or games, song slides, set up and clean up
- Help with programs and graduations: practices, set up, during the program, clean up afterward
- Keep classroom neat and tidy: clean boards, tidy up desks, sweep the floor, ensure students’ belongings are off the floor, put chairs on tables if applicable, bring recycling bins to the appropriate bin on Fridays
- Conduct parent/teacher meetings
- Enforce school policies
- Work with the resource teacher to ensure student success
- Take turns with yard duty
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
- Affirms he/she is a “born again” Christian who knows Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour.
- The teacher accepts without verbal or mental reservations both the Statement of Faith and the Educational Philosophy and Objectives of Mount Salem Christian School and is committed to upholding them.
- The teacher acknowledges that he/she is fully aware of his/her obligation under provincial law regarding child abuse reporting requirements and that he/she will fulfill those obligations.
- Demonstrate a reasonable level of computer literacy, having a basic proficiency in doing word processing, creating and using a spreadsheet, e-mailing, and accessing the Internet.
- A bachelor’s degree is recommended but not mandatory
