First Baptist Church, Lloydminster (FBC) is currently accepting applications for the position of Director of Outreach. FBC is part of the Fellowship​ of Evangelical Baptist Churches of Canada,​ a national body of Evangelical Baptists with whom we share common essential beliefs. FBC is located in the only border city in Canada, straddling the border of Alberta and Saskatchewan.​

Lloydminster​ is home to approximately 32,000 residents. It is a young and vibrant community offering the comfort of a rural lifestyle with the convenience of urban amenities. The community has a variety of facilities promoting local sports, culture, and leisure. The city offers residents public and Catholic schooling, post-secondary education, and training activities. Health services include local doctors, a fully equipped regional hospital, health centers, and seniors care. Shopping includes an ever-growing inventory of national retailers, local boutiques, and dining options.

It​ is our hope that at FBC people will find a place to connect and belong, an environment in which they can grow and develop in their faith and provide a variety of opportunities for them to reach outside themselves and serve. FBC​ is an active community with a variety of thriving ministries. FBC has seven full time ministry positions and two full time support staff positions. Prior to COVID-19, FBC hosted two Sunday morning services with an average weekly attendance of approximately 700 people. Currently we are averaging around 500 on Sunday mornings, with attendance numbers consistently on the rise. We also currently live-stream one of our Sunday morning worship services each week. We have a vibrant small group ministry consisting of numerous groups helping members and adherents to grow in their faith and maintain a sense of connection inside a large church community. FBC also has a heart for the community around us and we intentionally engage with it in a number of different ways and levels. FBC also owns and operates a summer camp – ‘Pleasantview Bible Camp’ – which is another significant means of outreach into our community.

Position​ Details

FBC​ is seeking a Director of Outreach to join our church ministry team, be accountable​ to the elders board through the lead pastor and report directly to the lead pastor or his designate. Preference will be given to candidates with a heart and passion to connect with the unchurched in the surrounding community, including a heart and vision for running a Christian camp program. Relevant educational training and/or experience will be considered an asset. The Director of Outreach will be responsible for the development and oversight of both FBC outreach initiatives as well as the PBC summer camp program, with a focus on recruitment, leadership training and development.

Supervision

  • This position involves the supervision and evaluation of volunteers and staff.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Without restricting the generality of the description above, the Director of Outreach shall perform such duties and responsibilities as may be assigned, by the Executive Pastor, including but not restricted to the following:
  • Conduct oneself in a manner appropriate for an individual who represents Christ’s Church to the community and to the world.
  • Deal tactfully with fellow staff members, ministry leaders, volunteers, members, adherents, visitors and the public.
  • Is able and prepared to share their personal testimony and explain the steps to knowing God personally with others.
  • Contribute to the continual improvement of FBC ministries and operations.
  • Be knowledgeable and supportive of applicable Board policies and administrative procedures.
  • Develop ministry goals, objectives and strategies for the ministry year, aligned with the Church Mission & Vision, and communicate these plans to the Executive throughout the year in a timely fashion.
  • Develop annual ministry area budgets for both Outreach and Camp in conjunction with the Executive Pastor.

Community Outreach

  • Coordinate Community outreach/service activities.
  • Oversee Benevolent Ministries.
  • Strive to accomplish the goals established by the Board and the Lead Pastor.
  • Recruit, train and oversee volunteers to support ministry.
  • Evaluate, develop and cast vision for ministry areas aligned with the Church’s Mission and Vision.
  • Undergo an annual FBC Staff Performance Review. This will also include elements of goal setting for your ministry area(s) for the upcoming year as well as personal growth evaluation and goal setting.
  • With awareness of the changing needs, challenges and opportunities in our congregation and community, assess and revamp ministry strategies to move the church forward to accomplish its Mission.

Camp

  • Plan the camping programs well in advance of the summer. 
  • Recruit and hire staff to operate the camp program, according to assessed need.
  • Organize and oversee camp opening and shutdown each spring and fall.
  • Provide leadership training and development for camp staff and the LIT program (Leaders in Training).
  • Oversee camp staff and volunteers throughout the summer camping season.
  • Oversee any camp related facility rentals.
  • Plan and provide leadership for a variety of initiatives to integrate campers and families into the life and ministries of the church following their camp experiences.

Expectations

The Director of Outreach will strive to further the Mission and Vision of the church in every aspect of their work.

The Director will resign if at any time they find that they are not able to support the Doctrinal position of the Church, the Mission & Vision of the Church, or the direction of the Church as delineated by the Elders Board and the Lead Pastor.

Confidentiality

The Director of Outreach is required to respect the confidential nature of the work that ministry leaders do. Information regarding any individual must not be discussed in public or with any person not authorized to receive that information. Exchange of personal information within the organization shall be on a “need to know” basis. Breaching confidentiality is a serious violation of acceptable conduct and is grounds for disciplinary action up to and including termination of employment with the church.

Remuneration

FBC​ offers a competitive salary and benefits package for this full-time permanent position. Remuneration will be determined in accordance with experience, education, and qualifications.
