Position Description

POSITION PURPOSE:

The primary purpose of the Children’s Pastor is to promote and facilitate discipleship pathways amongst the children within our community. The initial focus of this role is to create a Sunday morning environment that caters to this goal. The further development of this role will expand this vision by developing meaningful partnerships with parents and families in order to bolster the spiritual development of the next generation.

  • Is a fully committed follower of Jesus who demonstrates a growing relationship with him.
  • Strong moral character.
  • Is aligned with Pilgrim Church’s statement of faith, vision, and values.
  • A responsible self-starter who is eager to learn, grow, and develop.
  • Carries a heart and vision for the discipleship of children.

SKILLS, EXPERIENCE, QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Theologically and biblically proficient. 
  • Conscientious and diligent around protection of children, youth, and vulnerable adults, and able to stay informed of best-practices for care.
  • Administratively self-sufficient. Must be capable of managing and tracking schedules, volunteers, and curriculum.
  • Able to provide qualified references and a clear criminal record background check, which includes a vulnerable sector check.

AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:

As delegation and shared leadership are encouraged, the Children’s Pastor is not required to fulfill all of these responsibilities personally. Their responsibility is to ensure that these requirements are being effectively met and maintained:

  • Volunteers:
    • Recruitment and training of volunteers.
    • Scheduling volunteers.
    • Empowering volunteers with the ongoing resources and training they require.
  • Curriculum:
    • Curating and providing curriculum and leader guides in a timely manner.
    • Providing the necessary resources for each week’s lesson plans.
    • Ensuring that curriculum is effective and is being successfully utilized.
  • Communication:
    • Providing parents with helpful cues to facilitate conversations with their children from Pilgrim Kids.
    • Alignment with staff team to ensure cohesion between ministry areas.
    • Clear and concise communication with volunteers serving in Pilgrim Kids.

OTHER:

  • The Children’s Pastor will function as a part of the Pilgrim Staff team, engaging in strategic planning and team-building on an occasional basis. As this is a part-time position, attendance at staff meetings and other functions will be on an occasional basis as determined in consultation with the Lead Pastor.
  • The Children’s Pastor will be expected to engage in personal and professional development and will be resourced by Pilgrim Church to do so.
