Position Description

Reports to: Lead Pastor
Status: Part-Time / 20 hours per week / $20 per hour

The following document serves to detail the general duties associated with this specific ministry position. It is not intended to limit the scope of duties the ministry worker can and may need to perform while employed, rather to highlight the essential duties that the ministry worker would be responsible for on a regular basis. 

The Next-Gen Ministry Coordinator plays a vital role in nurturing the spiritual growth and development of students in grades seven through twelve at Sheridan Park Family Church. This part-time position involves providing spiritual discipleship, fostering meaningful relationships, and creating engaging programming to facilitate a vibrant next-gen ministry. The ideal candidate will have a passion for next-gen ministry, a heart for discipleship, and the ability to connect with students in a relevant and authentic way.

Key Responsibilities

Spiritual Discipleship and Mentorship

  • Build intentional relationships with students, serving as a role model and mentor in their spiritual journey.
  • Provide biblical teaching, guidance, and support to help students develop a deeper understanding of their faith and personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
  • Organize and facilitate small group discussions and discipleship activities tailored to the unique needs and interests of youth.

Program Development and Coordination

  • Plan, organize, and oversee the execution of a bi-weekly weeknight event for youth, incorporating elements such as worship, teaching, small groups, games, and fellowship.
  • Collaborate with next-gen ministry volunteers to create engaging and age-appropriate curriculum, activities, and events that align with the mission and values of Sheridan Park Family Church.
  • Evaluate and adjust programming based on feedback, attendance, and the evolving needs of the youth ministry.

Leadership Development

  • Recruit, train, and empower volunteer leaders to serve in various capacities within the youth ministry, including small group leaders, event coordinators, worship team members, and mentors.
  • Provide ongoing support, encouragement, and resources to equip volunteers for effective ministry and leadership roles.
  • Foster a culture of teamwork, unity, and servant leadership among youth leaders and volunteers.

Care and Support

  • Partner with the Lead Pastor to offer pastoral care and support to students facing challenges, crises, or personal struggles, providing a safe and confidential space for them to express their concerns and receive guidance.
  • Partner with parents and families to reinforce spiritual principles and provide resources for nurturing faith formation within the home.
  • Partner with the Lead Pastor to connect students with appropriate resources, counseling services, or community support networks as needed.

Outreach and Community Engagement

  • Develop strategies for reaching out to unchurched youth in the community and inviting them to participate in youth ministry activities and events.
  • Foster partnerships with local schools, organizations, and community groups to support youth outreach initiatives, service projects, and collaborative events.
  • Encourage and empower youth to actively engage in evangelism, outreach, and acts of service within their schools, neighborhoods, and broader community.

Qualifications

  • A committed follower of Jesus Christ with a genuine love for youth and a passion for discipleship.
  • Strong interpersonal and relational skills, with the ability to connect authentically with students, parents, volunteers, and church staff.
  • Excellent communication and teaching abilities, with a gift for conveying biblical truths in a relevant and engaging manner to youth.
  • Experience in youth ministry, teaching, or related fields, with a demonstrated ability to plan and execute programming for youth.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to work within a dynamic ministry environment, balancing multiple responsibilities and priorities effectively.
  • Alignment with the theological beliefs, values, and mission of Sheridan Park Family Church.

Working Conditions

  • Part-time position, with an expected commitment of 20 hours per week, including evenings and weekends for youth events and activities.
  • The role may require occasional travel for retreats, conferences, or off-site ministry opportunities - expenses covered.
  • Adherence to the policies and procedures of Sheridan Park Family Church will be required.
