Position Description

Hope Story is a Christian charity helping vulnerable children around the world access health, education, and discipleship. Working in partnership with local, in-country churches, our work spans the Americas, Africa, and the Middle East.

YOUR MISSION is to share our unique approach and engage with a growing number of Canadian churches and individuals. 

Director of Church & Donor Relations

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director of Church & Donor Relations will work to expand Hope Story's network of supporters in Southwestern Ontario and across Canada.

Fundraising Strategy & Execution – 50%

  • Develop and execute a fundraising strategy to a) expand Hope Story's donor base and b) build our monthly giving program.
  • Identify, cultivate, and maintain personal relationships with major donors (individuals, businesses and foundations) to ensure consistent and meaningful engagement.
  • Lead and manage a small support staff to ensure effective collaboration and goal alignment.
  • Collaborate with communications and field programming staff to develop compelling fundraising campaigns, donor updates, and foundation reports.
  • Analyze CRM data to assess the effectiveness of fundraising strategy and campaigns, and keep staff abreast of campaign goals/metrics.

Churches – 20%

  • Network with Hope Story staff, board, donors to expand Hope Story’s network of supportive Canadian churches.
  • Execute on clear and measurable goals for Hope Story’s interactions with Canadian church partners.

Teams – 20%

  • Organize and/or lead "vision teams" to engage key churches, volunteers and donors in Hope Story’s mission.
  • Establish strategy and targets to develop these team members into more fully engaged supporters (prayer and giving).
  • Support international staff to effectively host teams.
  • Refine and implement administrative systems to safely and efficiently mobilize/send teams. 
  • Conduct orientations and debrief.

Volunteer Mobilization and Management – 10%

  • Recruit and mobilize experienced volunteers who can lead vision teams and increase Canadian exposure to Hope Story.
  • Recruit and mobilize other volunteers to advocate on Hope Story's behalf in churches, participate in peer-to-peer fundraising, and generally increase awareness of Hope Story's work.

Qualifications

  • Gifted story teller and confident public speaker
  • Team management experience 
  • Able to inspire and motivate staff, volunteers, and donors.
  • 5+ years' experience in fundraising, donor relations, and launching successful campaigns. This should include:
    • Familiarity with fundraising software and donor management (CRM) systems.
    • Major gift fundraising and grant writing.
  • Flexible schedule – able to travel internationally, as well as within Canada and USA
  • Experience working with churches (either within or across) an asset
