About the Role

As the Human Resources Lead, you will be part of a team who shares a passion for protecting the vulnerable sector in churches, charities and not-for-profits. Reporting to the President, you will provide ongoing human resource and people management support and advice to approximately ten employees and 20 casual independent contractors.

You will be the first point of contact for prospective staff during the recruitment and screening selection. You will track the new employee’s progress during the first 90 days of orientation and then provide on-going team member care and administration during their employment. You will also contribute to the improvement of culture and team building.

You will also administer and manage resource management for sales that involve the assignment of staff to deliver the service.

Role Requirements:

  • Experience working with a staff team in human resources, including recruitment and selection of staff, payroll, conflict resolution, and team training
  • Demonstrate an ability to represent both staff and management, ensuring the policies and procedures are followed
  • Able to work independently
  • You are known as a person of integrity and able to maintain confidential information
  • Show proficiency in working with technologies such as Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, and Salesforce (or other CRM)
  • Demonstrate strong English verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience working in a fast-paced environment, and meeting deadlines
  • An understanding of the volunteer, not-for-profit and faith sectors is an asset

Primary Responsibilities:

Recruiting top talent:

Partner with leadership on recruitment strategies that will bring in top talent. Conduct full-cycle recruitment activities for full-time, contract, casual employees & student internships in close coordination with leadership. Proactively and enthusiastically stays updated on best practices as it relate to issues of equity, human rights, belonging and organizational development.  Works collaboratively with leadership to embed best practices into staffing. 

Onboarding to build a culture:

Facilitates onboarding processes and orientation sessions for new employees, student placements and casual/contract employees, ensuring new team members are fully immersed in Plan to Protect® approach.

Resource Management:

Schedule training practicums for clients, assign a coach for practicums and communicate practicum details and requirements to the client. Coordinate all training details for private online and in-person training, from the point of first contact, scheduling, and invoicing to securing feedback after the training. Work with the President or Program Lead of Training to assign a Trainer and a staff member to provide backend host/support.

Ensures staff are supported with benefits and pay:

Manages payroll, time attendance and benefits administration for the organization. Supports the processing of payroll and addresses any issues that have escalated. Feeds information about benefit questions or concerns back to the organization to identify opportunities to improve employee benefits.

Employ support and grievances:

Works with leadership and employees to ensure full compliance with company policies.  Works with the leadership team to address any grievances.  Confident in conducting and supporting mediation sessions with the goal of restoration amongst the team.  Understands when investigations are necessary and can facilitate the process.  

Oversees Health & Safety Program:

Assist the employer in developing and implementing health & safety policies and program requirements.  Ensures the organization’s compliance with health and safety legislation and due diligence. Identifies employees’ training needs and recommends resources. Oversees return to work program for injured employees or employees on leave.

Ensuring Employee Data Integrity:

Ensures accurate employees’ and independent contractors' data is up to date and current, including conducting periodic audits of personnel files and ADP records.  Generates ADP reports to facilitate management planning. Supports modernization efforts of processes and oversees employee/contractor data control.  

Supports Organization’s Strategy:

Actively contributes to the organization’s Strategic Plan by participating in initiatives and committees to support the overall plan.
