Position Description

Yonge Street Mission (YSM) is a vibrant, non-profit Christian organization leading a collective movement to end chronic poverty in Toronto. The Opportunity:

YSM is seeking a Receptionist/Administrative Assistant to ensure administrative resources are available building wide and receptionist/admin duties are carried out in such a manner so as to support the work of alleviating poverty. Working closely with the Youth Drop-In team, this position will support the ongoing needs and requests of both youth, staff and volunteers providing information, referrals and system navigation as needed.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide a welcoming and warm atmosphere to community members, volunteers, and staff
  • Manage the reception by receiving phone calls and responding to inquiries
  • Direct people to appropriate internal services; keeping daily services list updated
  • Connect young people to programs and services internally and externally 
  • Ensure safety and cleanliness of the front lobby area
  • Manage communications including inter-office mails, faxes, and emails
  • Provide administrative support for daily operations
  • Prepare, receive and coordinate mail via Canada Post, inter office and email
  • Document drop-in attendance; meals, incidents, referrals and other relief services 
  • Engage in positive conversations with youth establishing trust and developing meaning relationships
  • Help youth navigate site services by determining eligibility 

Qualifications:

  • Good English communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Good interpersonal skills, conflict resolution skills, and problem solving skills
  • Self-initiative and ability to work independently or with less supervision
  • Exceptional organization skills with keen eyes on details
  • Knowledge on the applications of Microsoft Office (Word, PDF, Excel, Publisher, PowerPoint) and other web-based applications (Mail Chimp, Google Docs) is an asset
  • Knowledge and experience with the issues of poverty and homelessness
  • A biblical understanding of the unique aspects of ministry among the poor and youth at risk
  • Demonstrated a personal commitment to YSM’s principles of faith, mission and values

Compensation: YSM offers market competitive rates and will pay a starting salary of $43,775 for this role, combined with a comprehensive suite of benefits and perks.
