Position Description

Grace Fellowship Alliance Church is seeking a pastor who will prayerfully and compassionately lead and support a series of teaching, pastoral care and community outreach ministries. The Grace pastor serves, teaches and leads the Grace church family under the denominational authority of the Christian and Missionary Alliance Canada and under the Grace council. Standard Expectations: The ideal candidate…

  • Shall be in agreement with the constitution of The Alliance in Canada, including position statements, and practical application of such statements.
  • While candidates from all denominational backgrounds are encouraged to apply, the position requires alignment with the overall vision, values, and statements of faith of The Alliance Canada and Grace Fellowship Church.
  • Is required to be licensed with The Alliance Canada and ordained or prepared to pursue ordination with The Alliance.
  • Is able to sign, teach, and support the local church in accordance with The Alliance’s “Call to Excellence” document.
  • Has a proven commitment to the core values and theology of The Alliance and a desire to participate in denominational initiatives.
  • Has completed a Bachelor degree level (or higher) theological training from an accredited school, or acceptable equivalents, in accordance with Alliance policy.

  • Is Biblically rooted, walks in godliness, is devoted to prayer as an expression of humble dependence on God and pursues the deeper life in the Alliance tradition.
  • Demonstrates integrity, transparency, and courage while continually inviting feedback towards ongoing personal growth both professionally and spiritually.
  • Is a leader who empowers staff, lay-led ministries and teams, to steward the vision and mission of both the local church and the Alliance.
  • Is a vision caster: we believe that vision is tied to our history and the trajectory that God has birthed in us as a church. We are not looking for or expecting someone to cast a vision that truncates our history but rather celebrates it and leads forward from there.
  • Is a gifted communicator who is able to preach relevant, exegetical, Biblical messages with the goal of life transformation.
  • Authentically connects with people, fostering a culture of discipleship in which those new to Christian faith or exploring it can learn to walk with Jesus and those who know Jesus are able to thrive together in their faith.
  • Cultivates a healthy, hospitable, and accountable staff and church culture.
  • Models and inspires others to show and share the kindness, grace, and truth of Jesus.
  • Has a track record of leading individuals to new faith in Jesus as well as empowering church members to do the same.

Specific pastoral responsibilities include:

  • Championing church family engagement in the deliberate development of outreach ministry in Sydney Mines.
  • Preparing and delivering 3-4 sermons/month; working with the council to schedule remaining preaching from Grace and the broader Christian community.
  • Facilitating deliberate and caring pastoral care, visiting and connecting with families on a regular basis with an eye towards providing care and engaging families in the church.
  • Supporting the development of care groups within Grace.
  • Support of existing and potential new ministries (children & youth, missions, etc.).
  • Strengthening the church’s nascent relationship with the C&MA denomination.

Compensation is in keeping with C&MA remuneration structures, including:

  • Housing Allowance
  • Salary based on C&MA Salary Grid depending on education and experience

  • Three or more references who can attest to your character, giftings, and suitability to function as a Lead Pastor.
