Position Description

Vision

The Director of Family Ministries will oversee the ministries of children and youth, and their families in our congregation with the aim to spiritually nurture their faith in Jesus Christ.

Responsibilities

  • To oversee the children’s Sunday School program of Cornerstone Presbyterian Church.  This program takes place on Sunday, 11:30 to 1:00 p.m. The program consists of three  classes: Junior Truth Seekers (pre-school to Grade 1), and Senior Truth Seekers (Grade 2 to 4), and Deep Divers (Grade 5 to 8).
  • This includes leading children’s worship, teaching by rotation, supervising volunteer teachers and assistants, preparing the rotation schedule for teachers and assistants, managing the curriculum resources, and providing the training volunteers need to ensure an effective children’s ministry.
  • To provide a vision for and leadership towards the development of a youth group, potentially a junior high group and/or senior high group.
  • To get involved with the students of Cornerstone school (elementary to high school students) in their Christian education offerings (i.e. monthly chapel services, summer and winter camps, after school program) and begin to establish outreach friendships with these students.
  • To ensure the provision of pastoral care to families with children and youth within the congregation.

Qualifications

  • A mature and experienced Christian teacher
  • Foundational biblical and theological studies, whether on-going or completed, would be an asset
  • Must support the ministry direction of the church
  • Have strong administration and communication skills
  • Be able to work well with volunteers and teams
  • Must have clean Vulnerable Sector Screening status

Accountability

To the Lead Pastor, to work together with existing pastoral staff, and to the Session

The position is a full-time contract position of 40 hours/week, at $25/hour, paid monthly; there will be an evaluation after a 6-month probationary period. After the successful probationary period, the contract will be renewed annually.
