Position Description

Half-Time Director of Children, Youth, and Family Ministry at Christ Church

Position: Director of Children, Youth, and Family Ministry (Half-Time)
Location: Christ Church Elbow Park, Calgary, Alberta

Start Date: May 1, 2025 (negotiable)

Christ Church is seeking a passionate and dynamic individual to oversee our Children, Youth and Family ministries. This half-time position offers an exciting opportunity to lead a group of invested volunteers and play a key role in nurturing the spiritual formation of the next generation.

Christ Church is deeply rooted in the Anglican tradition and embedded in an established neighbourhood where we have worshiped and served for over 100 years. We are a welcoming, vibrant community committed to following Christ in our time. We love God with our hearts through shared contemplative spiritual practices like meditation and lectio divina. We love God with our minds through learning opportunities that connect our ancient faith with the modern world. We love God with our hearts through beautiful worship. And we love God with our strength in outreach to refugees and immigrants, and partnering with schools and agencies in our community to make God’s love known through acts of care and compassion.

In the spirit of Calgary entrepreneurialism, we are not afraid to take risks and try new things. A mixed ecology of church is the way of the future, holding together traditional ways of being church and exploring creative ways to reach those beyond our doors with the good news of God’s love.

Christ Church is home to a dedicated group of parishioners, including an energetic staff comprised of Rector, part-time Assistant Priest, Office Administrator, Music Director and Preschool Director, and a talented and committed group of lay leaders who work collaboratively to serve our congregation (average attendance 150). Our family ministry serves approximately 50 children and youth ranging from newborns to 17 years old. On an average Sunday, we have 16 children participating in Sunday school and nursery including youth volunteer helpers.  We welcomed seven babies into our congregation this year.

Key Responsibilities:

Volunteer Management: Inspire, equip, empower and support volunteers to assist in our children and youth ministry programs.

Children’s Ministry: Oversee Sunday school and nursery.

Youth Ministry: Oversee programs for middle and high school students.

Family Ministry: Provide resources and support for parents and families to engage in faith development at home.

Spiritual Development: Foster an environment where children, youth, and families can grow in their faith and build meaningful relationships with God and each other.

Collaboration: Work closely with other ministry leaders and staff to integrate family ministries into the whole life of the church.

Qualifications:

  • A deep and growing faith in Jesus Christ, with a passion for nurturing the spiritual development of children, youth, and families.
  • Experience working in children’s, youth, or family ministry  in a church setting.
