Position Description

Director of Student Ministries- Grace Presbyterian Church (West Hill)

Hours 20 (Subject to review and change, dependent upon church requirements) - Salaried

Prerequisites: 

  • Mature evangelical Christian
  • Passionate about and excited about being an involved and important part of the lives of students – that is aimed at helping youth navigate what it means to be a young person, and a Christian or a young person searching out what Christianity is all about.
  • Passionate about youth ministry and inter-generational relationships (mentorship and discipleship)
  • Highly committed to finding creative and individualized approaches to the discipleship of young people, by regularly and consistently creating opportunities to be a part of their lives, that include but are not limited to the regular weekly all group gatherings.
  • Desire to work in partnership with other Christian ministries
  • Formal theological training helpful, but not required

Position: The Director of Student Ministries is responsible for the direction, vision, and execution of youth and young adult ministries at Grace Church.  The Director will oversee and lead regular Bible studies and community-building opportunities for Grace students (approximate ages: 11 – 25 years), while constructing a safe environment in which to explore faith, Christ, and life as Christians.  The Director will work with other Grace ministries to seek and provide opportunities to engage Grace youth with the greater congregation in meaningful and active ways (serving in ministries), ultimately to encourage positive and meaningful relationships with congregants of all ages as a means of building life-long faith in these students

Responsibilities:      

  • Lead and participate in the life and ministry of Grace Church, including weekly worship services and other community events
  • Oversight, direction and continued development of youth Bible studies and fellowships for Junior and Senior High School students (Grades 6-8, 9-12)
  • Oversight, direction and continued development of Young Adult ministries (Approx. ages 18-25)
  • Oversight and direction of the summer jobs funding programs, including submitting funding applications as necessary; assisting in recruiting, hiring, supervising and training of university, and high school students for the summer
  • Working with the Camp Director in building relationships and supervising youth in the Summer Program (i.e., student volunteers, student hires) in June to August, including training
  • Participate in the leadership of Grace’s Vacation Bible School
  • Oversight and direction of Junior High Events
  • Identify, provide, and create opportunities for leadership and service for Grace students of all ages, encouraging students to see themselves as an important part of the Grace Church community.
  • Help develop a local and global mission vision and awareness among the youth of our community (mission education and short-term mission opportunities)
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with parents and families of youth, recognizing families as a most important factor in a student’s faith development
  • Provide active and creative leadership that intentionally models what it means to reach out to youth of our community; wherever they are

Other: The Director of Student Ministries will report directly to the Senior Pastor and is expected to meet with the Senior Pastor and other team members regularly.  He/she will provide regular ministry reports and communication to the Grace Session/Elders (minimally three times a year).  Other responsibilities as required and assigned.
