Position Description

The Family Ministry Pastor will lead and cultivate the Family Ministry at the Toronto Chinese Methodist Church, with emphasis on nurturing children, youth and parents to grow into maturity as disciples of Jesus Christ. This role will guide the spiritual growth of families, fostering a multi-generational community where parents and children alike can mature in faith together.

Requirements and Qualifications

• M. Div. from a recognized seminary, majoring in pastoral/family ministry
• Passion for ministering to children and parents to build them up in our Lord
• Experience in working with families, and leading family programs and/or children’s programs 
• Fluency and proficiency in Cantonese and English, ability to speak Mandarin is an asset
• Strong interpersonal and leadership skills with a collaborative and humble spirit
• Openness towards a multi-generational and multi-language Chinese church community environment
• Computer literacy, including proficiency with Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

Job Description

• Oversee and provide pastoral leadership for the Children’s Ministry, empowering leaders and volunteers to nurture the spiritual lives of children effectively.
• Offer spiritual guidance, pastoral care and resources to parents in raising their children as faithful disciples. Provide counselling and coaching as needed.
• Develop and implement programs aimed at fostering spiritual growth for families, both individually and collectively.
• Recruit, train and equip leaders in Children’s Ministry and Family fellowship leaders, ensuring they are well-prepared to support families in their faith walk
• Collaborate with other pastors to create outreach initiatives that welcome new families, especially those from overseas, integrating them into the church family.
• Work closely with the Senior Pastor and other pastors to facilitate intergenerational programs where different generations can worship and serve together.
• Minister to families in partnership with the pastors and leaders of the Mandarin, English and Cantonese congregations.
• Working with the English Pastor to ensure a smooth transition for children into the English Youth Ministry.
• Completing all administrative tasks required promptly.
• The Family Ministry Pastor will work under the supervision of the Senior Pastor.

• One-year contract, renewable upon review
• Probation: 3 months
• Salary commensurate with experience and qualifications
