Position Description

BFM Foundation (Canada) is a national organization with over 50 Mission Thrift Stores across Canada. The net revenue from all Mission Thrift Stores is devoted to the Joint Ministry of BFM Foundation (Canada) and Bible League Canada. These funds are used to establish adult literacy programs, provide church planter training, children’s ministry programs, and distribute Bibles in many places around the world. The stores are operated primarily by dedicated volunteers.

Mission Thrift Store Duncan is currently seeking a part-time Support Staff who understands and supports the vision and purpose of BFM Foundation (Canada). The Support Staff will report to the General Manager.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Primary Activities

  • Sort, clean and price items for sale on the retail floor.
  • Become familiar with several departments to assist with stocking of the store.
  • Merchandise products in an orderly and organized fashion on the sales floor.
  • Process sales transactions and bag purchases for customers as required.
  • Welcome customers, answer their questions, help them locate items, and providing recommendations.
  • Operate registers, scanners, and credit card/debit card terminals maintain an accurate cash drawer.
  • Ensure that the cash area is clean, clear and meets safety standards.
  • Other duties as required.

Secondary Activities – occasional or infrequent activities for this role

  • Assist in Receiving when required and sort donations received from the public.
  • Ensure the sales floor is clean, and that aisles are clear and meet safety standards.
  • Resolve customers’ issues or concerns that may arise while ensuring customer satisfaction.
  • Count funds in the cash register as required.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES

Education

  • High School or Higher Education.

Work Experience:

  • Previous thrift experience or retail environment is considered an asset.
  • Previous experience with merchandising is considered an asset.

Skills

  • Ability to communicate thoughts and ideas clearly and effectively.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with grace and good humor.
  • Strong conflict resolutions skills with a focus on positive outcomes.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills: able to solve problems with good judgment and make decisions independently.
  • Computer literate with experience in operating a point of sales system (POS)
  • Good organizational and time management skills.

WORKING CONDITIONS

The Support Staff will be required to work under the following conditions on a regular basis.

  • The job is performed indoors in a thrift store retail setting.
  • Extensive work interfacing with people.
  • Standing, walking, reaching, bending or squatting to the floor.
  • Lifting and carrying goods up to 25 lbs., pulling and or pushing up to 25lbs.
