Position Description
Reports to Senior Pastor: North York (Chinese) Baptist Church (NYCBC) is looking for a dedicated Christian leader to provide strategic vision and effective leadership in the areas of administration and operations for fulfilling the church’s mission. Under the guidance of the Senior Pastor and according to the mandates and objectives defined by the Board of Deacons (BoD), the Chief Administrator is responsible for providing strategic oversight, direction, management and coordination in many areas including: leasing business, administration and operation.
Overall Leadership and Responsibilities: For the church’s leasing business and governance related matters, the Chief Administrator is accountable to the Board of Deacons and takes responsibility for things, such as, financial management and reporting, contract negotiation and administration, regulatory compliance, liaising with external entities and government agencies, etc.
For church administrative and operational functions the Chief Administrator reports to the Senior Pastor. S/he will be responsible for office and maintenance staff. S/he will provide leadership and oversight for church operations in both strategic and day-to-day matters., Although this is a leadership position, s/he is expected to have hands-on skills to perform the tasks required by the position. Leading an administrative staff team and working collaboratively with Church Officers, various committees and volunteers, the Chief Administrator will:
- Be responsible for developing an operating environment complete with resources, tools and processes that are conducive to the fulfillment of the church’s vision and ministry objectives
- Lead Church administrative staff and volunteers to develop and execute strategies and plans for meeting operational objectives as established with the church leadership
- Supervise and provide operational and spiritual leadership to Church administrative staff
- Oversee on-going operation and management of both the 685 and 675 Sheppard Ave. East facilities to serve ministry and financial needs
- Work with resources/committees appointed by the Board of Deacons and with input from Pastoral Staff to develop and implement leasing strategies as an integral part of the church’s overall strategy
- Participate as a non-voting member of the Treasury Team, the Finance and Audit Committee, the Infrastructure Committee, the Human Resource Committee, and the Pastoral Team, according to their Terms of Reference.
- As a member of the Leasing Team, manage the leasing business to meet objectives and Profit & Loss requirements as defined by the Board of Deacons or its representatives
- Support Church Officers concerning church governance matters
- Under the supervision of the Treasurer, support the Treasury Team in the preparation of the annual financial plan for consideration by the Board of Deacons, including the general operating budget, the capital budget, and the five-year capital expenditure plan
- Working with relevant channels and functional units, monitor and control the financial situation of the church and drive communication and fundraising initiatives
- Provide and promote strong controllership throughout the church, to ensure ethical behaviours, conscious management of risks, clear lines of accountability, responsible stewardship of resources and reporting on performance against stated objectives
- Support the Treasury Team in assisting the auditors in conducting annual financial audit of the Church and reporting financial information to the public
- Under the direction of the Board of Deacons, the Senior Pastor, or agents designated by them, develop and implement plans, policies and processes for recruitment and development of employees;
- Under the direction of Church Officers, represent the Church on matters dealing with government and the public
- Carry out special projects as assigned.
Skills and Knowledge
We invite candidates who can demonstrate the following:
- A mature Christian with senior management experience in a private, public or non-profit organization
- Entrepreneurial attributes with the ability to innovate, initiate, facilitate and implement changes in an organization with multiple set of operations and diverse stakeholders
- Excellent leadership, interpersonal, team work, communication, planning, critical thinking, presentation, problem solving, financial and negotiation skills
- Ability to effectively manage, inspire and engage staff at all levels and volunteers ensuring accountability for performance and results
- Ability to work effectively with all stakeholders/decision makers and develop relationships with other external organizations including government agencies
- Ability to demonstrate behaviours that model and support the organization’s values and cultures and ensure success
- Thorough knowledge of the legal and civic responsibilities of a registered charity operating within legislative requirements of the government
- Fluent in spoken and written English Good command of spoken Mandarin and/or Cantonese is an asset.
Other
In recognition that the Chief Administrator is an integral part to the overall ministry of NYCBC, the successful candidate is expected to attend worship services, prayer meetings, and major functions at NYCBC, attend all Business Meetings of Members as well as management team meetings including the Board of Deacons Meetings, Pastoral Team Meetings and meeting of various Committees even if most of these meetings usually fall outside the regular work week business hours. All staff members of the Church agree to abide by the Church’s Bylaws and subject to the authority of the Church as expressed in the Church‘s By-Law in the same manner as if such person is a Member of the Church.
