Assistant Pastor - Director of Discipleship @ Trenton Wesleyan Church
SUMMARY
The Director of Discipleship provides spiritual leadership, direction, and vision to the discipleship ministries of Trenton Wesleyan Church (TWC). The emphasis of discipleship ministries is to “reach deep” – to foster Christian maturity, and to facilitate places where followers of Jesus can deepen their relationship with God, both personally and in church community. The Director of Discipleship assists the Senior Pastor by working diligently in a team effort with church staff, ministry leaders, members, and attendees in support of the vision and mission of TWC.
This role will be done in keeping with the Wesleyan Articles of Faith & church governance. The Director of Discipleship is accountable to the Senior Pastor.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Sound theological education at a bachelor’s degree level or higher from a recognized accredited school, or acceptable equivalents.
- Documented ministry experience of five (5) years preferred in a medium or large church.
- Prepared to be ordained and/or licensed by the Wesleyan Church.
- Is a good standing member of the Wesleyan Church or is willing to become a member.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Director of Discipleship will focus on church ministries with an emphasis on “Reaching Deep”:
- Fostering Christian maturity in the church through ministry that includes practicing spiritual disciplines, discovering spiritual gifting, and equipping people into places of serving.
- Facilitating places where followers of Jesus can deepen their relationship with God, both personally and in church community.
Church ministries that the Director of Discipleship will oversee include:
- Small Groups
- Men’s Ministry
- Women’s Ministry
- Family Ministry
- Marriage Ministry
- Senior’s Ministry
- Church Library
- Belonging Class
- Money & Stewardship
The Director of Discipleship is responsible to personally lead the above discipleship ministries when required but moreover, to encourage & equip ministry leaders to effectively lead in discipleship ministries. The Director of Discipleship will be asked to strategically initiate & develop places for the growth of Christian discipleship at TWC, including building leadership teams and new ministry initiatives that meet the needs of the congregation.
The Director of Discipleship will serve as a support to discipleship aspects in Children’s and Youth Ministries, and will also be scheduled to preach occasionally, while performing other duties and responsibilities as may be required by the Senior Pastor, or the Local Board of Administration.
EVALUATION AND COMPENSATION
- Position (full-time) - 40-hour work week. The Director of Discipleship will ultimately be required to work the hours necessary to achieve the church’s goals and objectives.
- Salary will be commensurate with education and documented ministry experience.
- An annual performance evaluation and review will be completed at the end of each year by the Senior Pastor.
- An annual review of the compensation package will be completed every Spring by the Senior Pastor and Budget Committee.
- The Pastor’s sabbath day will be taken each Monday of the week.
