Position Description
About Us: OMF is a global fellowship of Christians with a heart for East Asia. We are passionate to demonstrate and proclaim the good news to East Asia’s billions, many of whom have never seen or heard it. OMF Canada inspires, equips, and empowers the Canadian church, mobilizing individuals and communities to join in God’s redemptive work among East Asia’s peoples. Our goal, with God’s help, is to see church movements among every East Asian people group.
Responsible to: The International Director for the Americas, OMF International.
At the local ministry and governance level, is accountable to the OMF CA National Council under the overall leadership of the Council and Board Chairman.
Responsible for: OMF members sent out from Canada, as well as Homeside workers in Canada, including
members, staff, volunteers and retirees
Tenure of office: Three-year initial appointment, renewable for up to three successive four-year terms
Main purpose of role
- Exercise overall responsibility for the mobilization ministry of OMF CA and the engagement with East Asians in Canada
- Work closely with and under the OMF Canada Council (and Council Chairman) on overall governance for OMF Canada
- Provide leadership to the OMF Canada Leadership Team in vision setting, strategic planning, and pursuit of ministry to accomplish our mission: We share the good news of Jesus Christ in all its fullness with East Asia's peoples to the glory of God
- Contribute to the body of knowledge on world mission both within OMF CA, in churches and with other mission organizations in Canada
Primary responsibilities
- Provide leadership for the Leadership Team
- Vision sharing for the ministry of OMF International in Canada and establishing the profile of OMF's ministries among Canadian churches
- Managing and implementing the agreed policies of OMF International including financial, personnel and ministry deployment issues
- Networking in Canada and overseas with supporting partner churches and parachurch organizations
- Supporting and enabling the development of Connections East Asia (Diaspora ministry in Canada)
Leadership
- Lead by providing a role model for colleagues in the OMF CA team
- Invest in and develop the next generation of leaders for OMF Canada
- Work with the OMF Canada Leadership Team to set strategy
- Work closely with the National Council and its committees
- Contribute a culturally appropriate perspective in the development of OMF International's ministries and international policy.
- Ensure that OMF CA is fit for purpose as an organization, leading change effectively
- Keep in touch with global developments in OMF International as they impact on OMF CA members
Personnel
- Selection of all new OMF CA members
- Pastoral care, welfare and effective working of OMF CA personnel, primarily those in Canada but also those serving in other countries
Communication/Public Relations
- Promote strategic alliances with like-minded missions to achieve common purposes and specific agreed-upon goals
- Communicate regularly to OMF constituency in Canada, through writing, conferences, preaching engagements, visits, etc.

Expected skills and abilities
The National Director will:
- Be knowledgeable and understanding of current world trends relating to missions: have a good grasp of missiological and theological issues relating to missions; exhibit relational skills with people of different cultures
- Be a clear communicator
- Have appropriate leadership and management skills
- Have pastoral skills in caring for his/her team
Living Situations
- Must reside in or plan to reside in Canada as a Canadian citizen
- Flexibility, a desire to work with a Canada-wide team and willingness to communicate remotely through Microsoft Teams and email
- Willing to work some weekends and weeknights
- Willing to occasionally travel within Canada
- Able to travel to Asia
- The approved candidate needs to raise prayer and financial support.
National Office Location:
Toronto, Ontario
Remote work is negotiable for the National Director to lead the OMF Canada team.
