Position Overview

The Executive Director (ED) is a pivotal leadership role responsible for:

  • Developing and implementing strategic initiatives in collaboration with the Board of Directors.
  • Overseeing the long-term sustainability and operational excellence of Fairhaven.
  • Innovating programs and fostering relationships with guests, supporters, and stakeholders.

This role requires a hands-on leader committed to aligning Fairhaven’s mission, vision, and values with every facet of its operations.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Governance

  • Collaborate with the Board to craft and execute strategic plans.
  • Model servant leadership and cultivate a relational, collaborative culture.
  • Develop and guide organizational policies, risk management, and long-term planning.

Program Development

  • Oversee and enhance core services, including retreats, counseling, and coaching.
  • Partner with local providers to offer holistic care for guests.
  • Ensure ethical standards in service delivery, including confidentiality and record-keeping.

Staffing & Team Development

  • Recruit, mentor, and develop a mission-driven team of staff and volunteers.
  • Foster a positive, healthy, and safe work environment aligned with legislative requirements.
  • Implement performance management processes and succession planning.

Financial Leadership

  • Develop and manage the annual budget with Board approval.
  • Lead fundraising efforts, donor engagement, and partnership-building.
  • Monitor and ensure financial transparency and alignment with strategic priorities.

Community Engagement & Advocacy

  • Represent Fairhaven at events, conferences, and public forums.
  • Build partnerships with churches, organizations, and other stakeholders.
  • Stay attuned to trends in Christian leadership, retreat ministries, and nonprofit management.

Compensation

  • Salary: Competitive, based on experience, ranging from $65,000 to $80,000 per year.
  • Benefits: Comprehensive health and dental coverage, along with paid vacation time.
  • Housing: On-site accommodation provided, including all utilities.

Compensation aligns with BC labor laws, including adherence to Employment Standards Act provisions regarding minimum wage, vacation pay, and overtime, as applicable.

Qualifications

  • A mature Christian faith aligned with Fairhaven’s Statement of Faith.
  • Proven leadership experience (10+ years) in Christian ministry, nonprofit, or retreat settings.
  • Strong background in fundraising, financial oversight, and strategic planning.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • A Master’s degree in nonprofit management, theology, or a related field is preferred.

Additional Requirements

  • The spouse of the Executive Director, if applicable, is expected to engage in volunteer activities within the ministry of Fairhaven. Participation should align with the spouse's unique skills and availability, taking into account their employment status and time commitments.
  • Valid driver’s license and vehicle with appropriate insurance for regional travel.
  • Criminal background check (required within probationary period).
  • On-site residency at Fairhaven Retreat Centre.
