Position Description

Our church is a multigenerational congregation where we believe God has given us an opportunity for this congregation to be transformed by Him into a community of grace reflecting the Biblical image of all people seeking God as one. We believe that we are to glorify God by being a church firmly rooted in biblical truth, growing in Christ-like love, and by extending His hope to those in Essex and throughout our surrounding area.
Purpose of the Position
The Community Outreach Director’s main objective will be to assess our community, identify opportunities to advance our vision in these areas and to empower the congregation of the Essex CRC to engage with the wider community to build relationships with one another.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Develop and implement a comprehensive community ministry strategy, identifying opportunities and realigning as necessary in keeping with the church’s vision
- Communicate outreach opportunities to our congregation in coordination with church council
- Plan and oversee these opportunities for our congregation to engage, build and develop stronger relationships in the Essex community
- Inspire, recruit and equip a team of key volunteers to help lead these ministries
- Connect and build mutually beneficial relationships between Essex CRC and outside agencies
- Plan, coordinate and implement community projects with other churches and local ministries
- Provide a smooth transition process that allows new comers to be fully engaged participants within the Essex CRC community
- Commit to and support the church’s vision and mission
- Manage the outreach budget and related paperwork
- Attend council meetings and other agreed upon meetings and conferences as needed
Working Relationship
- The Community Outreach Director will work alongside church council.
- They will be a member of the ministry staff and will act as the coordinator for the Outreach Ministry Team and will hold accountable any staff or volunteers serving under the Outreach Ministry Team.
Personal Attributes & Qualifications
- A committed follower of Jesus Christ, with evidence of a personal relationship
- Believes the Bible to be the infallible word of God and has a solid understanding of scripture as interpreted through a Reformed lens
- Demonstrates spiritual maturity, godly character, and a consistent walk with Christ
- Demonstrated leadership experience with a focus in the area of church and/or community outreach; knowledge of issues facing the community
- Demonstrates spiritual leadership which empowers and encourages others
- Demonstrates a pastoral and discipling heart, exhibiting compassion and understanding to members of the community
- Able to communicate effectively one on one as well as in large group settings
- Able to take initiative, and is a collaborative team player
- Well versed in the use of social media, representing church and faith honourably
- Organized with a strong work and leisure ethic
- Bachelor’s Degree in ministry or related field preferred or currently working towards degree in Ministry
Job Type
This will be a part time position
Compensation
A competitive salary based on the experience and qualifications of the successful candidate will be provided.
