Church Planting Pastor

Church Planting Pastor

Company: Emmanuel Baptist Church
Contact Person: Randy Roebuck
Location/Address:
374 Salem Rd
Barrie, Ontario

Position Description

Emmanuel Baptist Church (EBC) is prayerfully seeking God’s direction in finding a Church Planting Pastor for our future Angus congregation. We are searching for a Church Planter who shares our vision and passion, and who is willing to begin an Emmanuel congregation in the town of Angus in fulfilling the Great Commission as we live out the Great Commandment.

Who We Are:

Emmanuel is one church comprised of 4 local congregations in Barrie and Orillia; the launch of Angus will add a 5thcongregation. We seek to “love God deeply, love others authentically, and share Christ joyfully.” All our congregations have their own pastoral staff with live expository preaching and worship on Sunday mornings. Our congregations are intentionally multi-generational. Our core values include Word (we hear from God), Worship (we respond to God), Mission (we reflect Jesus Christ to our world), and Multiplication (we make disciple-makers). We belong to the Fellowship of Evangelical Baptist Churches (FEB), and we adhere to FEB’s Statement of Faith and practices. All of our congregations are interdependent and receive strong administrative support from EBC.

Emmanuel Angus is going to be a brand-new congregation! Its core team can be drawn from our existing congregations (with a total average Sunday morning attendance of approx. 1800 people). It will be contextualized to the particular needs of Angus/Essa Township while maintaining the key DNA/values of the broader Emmanuel membership. Emmanuel is blessed to own a strategically located church building in Angus. This means the congregation will launch with a permanent place within the community, without needing to stress over rental space.

Emmanuel Angus will be under the care and leadership of the Emmanuel Barrie congregation during the planting phase. While given a high degree of creative freedom and responsibility, Angus’ planting pastor will report to the lead pastor of Emmanuel Barrie during its initial months or years. Emmanuel Angus will operate as an established congregation (no longer under the leadership of Emmanuel Barrie) once key markers are in place, such as having its own trained elders in place, financial self-sufficiency, and overall ministry stability.

Who We Are Seeking:

  • Spiritual Maturity - A deep, personal vibrant relationship with Jesus Christ evidenced in daily life and exhibiting character qualities outlined in 1 Timothy 3:1-7, Titus 1:5-9, and 1 Peter: 5:1-4.
  • Passionate about Planting – Excited about the unique blessings and challenges involved in planting a new congregation within the context of a multi-congregational church.
  • Effective Communicator – Capable and articulate with strong communication skills in both writing and speaking.
  • Visionary Leader – Strategically interprets and applies the vision of Emmanuel to the context of the Angus campus. Leads the congregation in fulfilling our mission.
  • Multiplying Leader – Nurtures mentor/mentee relationships to intentionally make disciples who make disciples.
  • Team Builder - Develops a culture of strong teamwork and collaborative relationships that are marked by trust, unity in spirit, mutual care and support.
  • Team Player - Works alongside other leaders and is easily followed as a servant leader. He delegates appropriate levels of responsibility and authority to others, putting the best people in the right places of ministry.
  • Committed Learner – Committed to life-long learning, studying Scripture, keeping current with biblical scholarship as well as trends in leadership and discipleship, awareness of cultural trends, and development of skills and gifts.

Our Planting Pastor will demonstrate these spiritual gifts:

  • Apostle/Evangelist - Committed to the larger vision of the Great Commission. Our Planting Pastor needs to be someone who readily does the work of an evangelist while teaching people to obey all that Jesus has commanded, and while mobilizing others to do the same.
  • Teacher/Preacher - Committed to expositional teaching/preaching—presenting the meaning and intent of the biblical text, providing commentary and examples to make the passage understandable and applicable to the congregation.
  • Shepherd - Passionately loves and serves the Church with a heart for the lost. He cares for others and can develop a relationship of trust, allowing him to serve as a shepherd.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Recruit and train a Core Team with a view toward being prepared to launch.
  • Provide leadership in vision casting and in discerning God’s direction for the local campus.
  • Fulfil the role of primary preacher/teacher at the Angus campus.
  • Lead the church to align all ministries and activities with Emmanuel’s mission, vision and values.
  • Provide pastoral leadership and overall management to the ministries of the Angus congregation.
  • Oversee the shepherding care of the congregation.
  • Represent and participate in Fellowship of Evangelical Baptist (FEB) Churches of Canada events.

Qualifications:

  • Agrees with and subscribes to Emmanuel’s Statement of Faith while also fully aligning with the mission, vision and values of Emmanuel.
  • Preferred Master of Divinity or equivalent, but a bachelor’s degree in theology would be considered. Life and ministry experience will also be taken into consideration.
  • Experience in pastoral ministry is a must. Exposure to a variety of church settings and sizes, including church plants, would be an asset.
  • Recognized as an ordained minister with FEB, or willing and able to be ordained with FEB.
  • Completed the FEB Church Planter Assessment (can be completed during the interview process) and willing to fully engage in FEB Church Planter training and coaching.
