Position Description

JOB SUMMARY

Reporting to the Director, Development and Advancement, and as a member of MCC BC’s Advancement team, the Associate Director, Advancement is responsible for developing and executing local fundraising appeals, overseeing donor engagement strategies, and ensuring the growth and stewardship of MCC BC’s donor base. 
This position plays a key leadership role in coordinating the major donor team, guiding donor engagement efforts, and leveraging data-driven insights to optimize fundraising strategies. The Associate Director, Advancement supervises the Data Coordinator, ensuring data integrity, and utilizing reports to guide donor segmentation, retention, and acquisition efforts. Additionally, the Associate Director, Advancement supports the Advancement team, ensuring clear priorities, effective teamwork, and collaboration across departments.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • How much you work: this is a full-time salaried position working a minimum of 37.5 hours per week. 
  • When you work: this position primarily operates within general office hours of 8:30 – 4:30 pm, Monday to Friday. Occasional flexibility to be available for evenings or on a weekend is required. Flexibility of working hours to accommodate donor and event schedules is required.
  • Where you work: this position is located at MCC BC’s Abbotsford head office. This role provides flexibility for hybrid work, balancing remote and in-office collaboration. Occasional travel within the region for donor meetings and events may be required.
  • Physical conditions & requirements: this position may require up to 100% computer-monitor time. 
  • Pace of work: this position works in a busy office environment with high day-to-day variation, including receiving and responding to unanticipated requests daily. As such, moderate mental stress is expected.
  • Interactions with vulnerable populations: this position will have low interactions with vulnerable populations.

FUNDRAISING & DONOR ENGAGEMENT

  • Proven ability to lead major donor engagement and fundraising efforts, including successfully managing donor relationships and campaigns.
  • Strong analytical skills to track campaign performance and donor engagement metrics.
  • Knowledge of donor databases and CRM systems (an asset).

LEADERSHIP & COMMUNICATION

  • Strong team management experience with the ability to provide leadership and support to ensure team success.

JOB REQUIREMENTS & LICENSING

  • College or University Degree in fundraising or related field required
  • Valid BC Driver’s License along with a satisfactory Driver’s Abstract
  • Satisfactory criminal record clearance (required upon hire)
  • Legally able to work in Canada 

Key Responsibilities

DONOR ENGAGEMENT

  • Develop and implement donor growth, stewardship, and cultivation plans to build strong, long-lasting relationships.
  • Track and analyze the effectiveness of donor engagement strategies, making adjustments to improve donor retention and growth, leveraging reports to inform decision-making.
  • Manage donor recognition efforts, ensuring all donors are appropriately thanked and informed about the impact of their gifts.
  • Act as the primary contact with MCC Canada for all donor content and data needs.
  • As the Major Donor Team Lead, responsible for coordinating with Major Donor staff to develop and oversee stewardship plans for a portfolio of major donors, ensuring strategic engagement and alignment with overall fundraising goals.
  • Collaborate with events coordinators to leverage event opportunities to engage donors and acquire new donors.
  • Carry a portion of the Major Donor portfolio.

FUNDRAISING APPEALS

  • Develop and execute direct mail and online fundraising campaigns targeting all donor segments.
  • Create and implement donor journeys and segmentation strategies, ensuring a personalized and impactful approach to donor engagement.
  • Oversee the processes for treating different donor segments, including first-time donors, major donors, and recurring donors.
  • Collaborate with the Director, Development and Advancement other stakeholders to refine and optimize fundraising approaches.
  • Work with Director, Development and Advancement and Community Engagement Manager to develop new initiatives and opportunities to engage local community leaders in local program funding.

DATA MANAGEMENT AND OVERSIGHT

  • Supervise the Data Coordinator, ensuring donor records are accurately maintained, data entry follows best practices, and database integrity is upheld to support effective donor engagement and fundraising efforts.
  • Monitor data hygiene, generate reports, and analyze donor trends to provide strategic insights that inform stewardship plans, donor segmentation, and overall fundraising strategies.

TEAM LEADERSHIP AND PARTICIPATION

  • Provide leadership and strategic direction to the Advancement team, ensuring clarity in priorities and alignment with MCC BC’s fundraising and engagement goals.
  • Supervise and support the Data Coordinator, ensuring data integrity, effective donor record management, and the generation of reports that inform engagement strategies.
  • Serve as the Major Donor Team Lead, coordinating with Major Donor staff to develop and oversee stewardship plans, ensuring strategic engagement and direct stewardship of a major donor portfolio.
  • Foster a collaborative and results-driven team environment, equipping staff with the tools and guidance needed to enhance donor relationships and fundraising success.
  • Participate in MCC functions (ie. relief sale, relief sale banquets and Annual General Meeting) as required and represent MCC beliefs, values and mission to donors, constituents and the general public when handling general inquiries
  • Other duties as assigned.
