About Us

North Toronto Chinese Baptist Church ( https://ntcbc.org/ ) is a trilingual church, serving Cantonese, English and Mandarin-speaking congregations. Our identity is one church with three language congregations.  In accordance with the teachings of the Bible, this church, with Christ as its head, leads people to the Lord, builds up believers, connects members, and accomplishes the mission entrusted by Jesus Christ.

Position Overview

We are seeking a full-time Senior Pastor with a combination of theological grounding, cultural understanding, relational wisdom, and organizational skills to effectively shepherd a diverse, trilingual congregation toward our stated vision and mission.

1. Strong Theological Foundation and Vision Alignment

  • Gospel-Centered Vision: A deep commitment to the gospel of Jesus Christ as the unifying center of all ministries.
  • Doctrinal Consistency: Ability to lead from a consistent theological foundation that aligns with the church’s Statement of Faith ( https://ntcbc.org/en/statement-of-faith/ ), ensuring theological unity across language ministries.

2. Unified Vision of the Church Body

  • Commitment to a One-Church Vision: A deep conviction for unity within diversity, fostering the one-church vision while respecting each congregation’s uniqueness and a clear articulation of the church’s three-in-one vision.
  • Bridge-Building Leadership: Skilled in shepherding the leadership in connecting the different language congregations through shared initiatives, collaborative worship, and other creative measures.

3. Multilingual and Multicultural Competence

  • Language Skills: Fluency in English and in either Cantonese or Mandarin.
  • Cultural Awareness: An appreciation of cultural nuances within each language group and an understanding of how culture shapes perspectives on faith, worship, and community.
  • Inclusive Communication: Ability to communicate effectively and inclusively across different languages and cultures.

4. Leadership and Vision

  • Visionary: Ability to articulate and cast a clear vision that aligns with the church’s mission of unity and collaboration across the different language congregations.
  • Empowerment of Ministry Teams: A collaborative approach to leadership that involves equipping and empowering Pastors, Deacons, and lay leaders across the language ministries to work together as one body.

5. Pastoral Heart

  • Empathy and Compassion: Leading the pastoral team to provide an empathetic, approachable demeanor that resonates with congregants from different backgrounds with spiritual needs.
  • Accessibility: Being approachable and available to the congregation.

6. Missional Mindset

  • Commitment to Discipleship: Leading the pastoral team to focus on equipping congregants to grow in their faith and share the gospel across cultures, creating opportunities for collaborative outreach to the wider community.
  • Community Connection: Active engagement with the local community, advocating for outreach events and partnerships that reflect the church’s unity and mission.
  • Global Mission: Active engagement and partnership with missionaries and mission institutes.

Qualifications and educational requirements

  1. 10+ years of ministry experience in a leading role, preferably in a multi-cultural and pastoral team setting
  2. A Master of Divinity (M Div.) or its equivalent in theological education from an Association of Theological Schools (ATS) accredited institution.
  3. Languages: can speak and preach in at least one Chinese language (Cantonese/Mandarin) and in English
