Job Summary:

Toronto Christian Community Church (TCCC), a multi-language church in the Southern part of Markham, Ontario. We have served the community and beyond since 1975, with a mission to grow missional disciples of Jesus Christ and to impact the world with compassion and reconciliation. The church also operates the 105 Gibson Centre, a community care center dedicated to serving the local community and sharing Jesus’ compassion and hope. The Cantonese congregation has a size of 900+ attendees, with three worship services, two on Sundays and one on Saturdays.

We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Cantonese Pastor to oversee and develop the small group ministry under the Body Life department for our Cantonese-speaking congregation with a potential to outreach to our neighbors and beyond with the Kingdom missions. The church has strategically positioned the small group as the main platform for nurturing missional disciples, and see small groups as the Core Operational Units of the church for spiritual growth. The primary mandate of this role is to strategize, to lead changes to build missional disciples through the platform of small group. It requires a dynamic, visionary and creative leader who can equip, train, and empower small group leaders, foster authentically relevant Christian community, and encourage spiritual growth. There is great potential for the growth of the Cantonese membership as we are faced with a wave of HK newcomers, and the church is searching for a new direction for its 51st year. A seasoned pastor with a mission mindset and a visionary built is what we are inviting into the leadership team.

General Responsibilities:

To perform general duties of a Pastor in TCCC, working with pastors within the same language congregation as well as from other language congregations. These include preaching, teaching, visitation, leading lay leaders, strategizing in their respective ministries, outreaching with the gospel of the Kingdom, collaborating with 105GC ministries, living as a missional disciple as an example, and other duties designated by the lead pastor and the Senior Pastor.  

Key Responsibilities:

Small Group Ministry Development:

  • Provide visionary leadership and strategic direction for the Cantonese congregation's Body Life Department (missional disciple small group ministry)
  • Develop a discipleship pathway that integrates small groups into the church’s overall mission and vision.
  • Encourage a culture of missional engagement, where small groups serve as a platform for evangelism, discipleship, and community outreach.

Leader Recruitment & Training:

  • Identify, train, and mentor small group leaders to cultivate strong, healthy, and multiplying small groups.
  • Develop and implement a leadership training curriculum for small group leaders.
  • Provide pastoral care, coaching, and regular encouragement to small group leaders.

Pastoral Care & Discipleship:

  • Foster spiritual growth within the small group ministry by providing sound biblical teaching and resources.
  • Ensure that small groups serve as a means for members to receive pastoral care, accountability, and encouragement.
  • Collaborate with the pastoral team to address the spiritual and practical needs of small group members.

Missional Focus & Community Engagement:

  • Guide small groups to engage in local outreach and mission efforts to impact the community.
  • Encourage an outward focus, equipping small groups to share the Gospel and serve in their neighborhoods.

Administrative & Ministry Coordination:

  • Oversee the structure, growth, and multiplication of small groups.
  • Work alongside church leadership to align small groups with the church's vision and core values.
  • Monitor and assess small group health and effectiveness, providing reports and recommendations.

Other responsibilities in Body Life department:

  • Maintain and upgrade the Body Life department so that it regains its designated position as the main training ground and support unit of the church.
  • Take care of the present units in the department, including but not limit to: Men ministry, Ladies ministry, fellowships and related trainings.
  • Building link and breaking barriers between BL and other ministries.
  • Lead and strategize for the department to energize the church to serve more eagerly.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Personable, creative, team-player, mature, dynamic, communicative, visionary.
  • Fluency in Cantonese (spoken and written) and proficiency in English.
  • Strong theological foundation and commitment to biblical teaching.
  • A deep passion for missional discipleship and well beings of the church (small group in particular).
  • Proven leadership and team-building skills in a church or ministry setting.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to connect with leaders and congregants.
  • Ability to develop and implement effective ministry strategies.
  • Strong administrative, organizational, networking, and problem-solving skills.
  • A pastoral heart, with a desire to nurture, equip, and shepherd God’s people.
  • Experience in missional discipleship, small groups development and/or community outreach is an asset.
  • Cross cultural experience, exposure to a non-Chinese context a plus.

Qualifications:

  • A committed follower of Jesus Christ, demonstrating spiritual maturity and integrity, a strong believer of the Gospel of the Kingdom with its saving power.
  • A Master of Divinity (M.Div.) or equivalent theological education preferred.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of pastoral experience in small group ministry, discipleship, or community-building role.
  • 3-5 years of pastoral management experience.
  • Agreeable to the TCCC’s tenant of faith and core values.

  • A growing and thriving small group ministry that fosters spiritual transformation.
  • Increased participation and engagement in small groups among congregants.
  • Small groups that are actively involved in missional outreach and evangelism.
  • Continuous growth concerning the number of small groups and the overall proportion of congregants joining small groups.
  • A strong and growing team of trained and empowered small group leaders with strong teamwork and clear role in building missional disciples.
  • Strong alignment between small group ministry, Body Life department and the church’s overall mission and vision.
