Position Description

Richmond Hill Baptist Church and Senior Pastor Profile

Richmond Hill Baptist Church, in Calgary, Alberta, is a vibrant, Christ-centred community representing multiple generations, cultures, and languages. Reflecting Calgary’s rich international demographic, it is situated in the diverse and dynamic southwest quadrant of the city.

After 22 fruitful years of ministry, our beloved senior pastor accepted the call to serve as a regional ministry leader in our convention. We are prayerfully seeking a man of God’s choosing to shepherd and lead our congregation into the next chapter.

Approximately 400 people consider RHBC their spiritual home, including 220 active members, with an average weekly attendance of 250. Our facility is debt-free with space for education and fellowship and includes a dedicated worship centre that seats up to 450. Our building also hosts Arabic and Chinese congregations, a preschool, and serves as a hub for denominational and community events.

Our Convictions

We are passionate about “Connecting with God, His Word, His Church and His Mission.” We value connection, participation, celebration, multiplication, and simplification. Our theological convictions align with the Statement of Faith of the Canadian National Baptist Convention.

Life at RHBC

  • Sunday Worship: Our weekly gatherings blend contemporary and traditional styles, and feature biblically rooted and culturally relevant messages. We regularly celebrate The Lord’s Supper and baptism.
  • Bible Study Groups: More than 50 adults participate in Sunday morning Bible studies, supplemented by weekly groups serving over 145 adults, young adults, and youth.
  • Kids, Youth and Families: RHBC offers dynamic children’s worship across 5 age-specific classes, plus seasonal family-centered events that encourage spiritual growth within families.
  • Volunteer Engagement: Approximately 60% of our youth and adults actively volunteer, contributing to ministries such as Kid’s Worship, Worship Teams, Youth Ministry, Men’s and Women’s Ministry, Seniors’ gatherings, and community outreach events.

Community Outreach

RHBC is well-known in our community through signature annual events such as:

  • Stampede Breakfast & Outdoor Worship Service: We serve over 1,000 people at our annual pancake breakfast during the Calgary Stampede.
  • Christmas Around the World: During Advent, we celebrate our diverse cultural heritage with music, testimonies, and cuisine representing Africa, Asia, North and Latin America, and Europe.

Specialized Ministries

  • Freedom Session: A transformative 28-week discipleship program promoting personal healing and spiritual growth.
  • Mid-Week Groups: 4 active small groups, in addition to dedicated youth, young adult, and seniors’ groups.
  • Men’s Ministry: monthly gatherings for fellowship and teaching plus an annual retreat
  • Women’s Ministry: Annual retreats and special events.
  • Seniors Ministry: Weekly Bible Study plus lunches, hymn sings, and outings.
  • Marriage Mentorship: Supporting and strengthening marriages within our congregation.

Missions and Outreach

Our congregation is deeply committed to missions, locally and globally. In addition to CNBC missions, we support short-term mission trips to Southeast Asia and Latin America, medical missions, indigenous ministry, and local initiatives such as the Baby Bottle Drive and distributing snacks to unhoused populations.

Looking Forward

We are seeking a Senior Pastor who will build upon our rich heritage, ongoing community impact, and our commitment to spiritual growth. A congregational survey in March 2025 identified the following desirable qualities in our pastoral candidate:

  • Gifted and engaging Bible teacher/preacher
  • Passion for evangelism and missions
  • At least 6 years of pastoral ministry experience with demonstrated ability to lead and grow a congregation
  • Minimum bachelor’s degree in theology or biblical studies
  • Able to preach both expository and topical sermons, connecting biblical depth with relevance and application to modern life
  • Comfortable with blended worship styles
  • Actively engaged in building community relationships
  • Visionary, collaborative leader skilled at building consensus
  • Strong intergenerational connector, effectively engaging youth, young adults, and mature adults
  • Cross-cultural experience, able to relate well to the multi-ethnic flavor of our church and city
  • Life experience outside of ministry roles
  • Passion for discipleship, mentoring emerging leaders, and growing small group ministries
