Position Description
Helping Hands Street Mission is seeking to hire an Operations Director (30-40 hrs/week, salary $60,000-$75,000/year). Reports to the Executive Director; manages all other staff.
The Operations Director would lead all operations roles such as:
Human Resources:
- team leader/direction/communication
- hiring, onboarding, evaluation & scheduling of staff
- staff teaching/mentorship/guidance/accountability
- HR policies & protocol
- ensure clarity of organizational purpose and alignment among staff and volunteers
Financial oversight:
- tracking of monthly finances and communication with bookkeeper (bookkeeper outsourced)
- tax receipt management (with support of bookkeeper)
- annual financial statements/audit (created by accountant firm)
- day to day banking
- budgeting, reporting
- grant reporting
- financial policies
- financial oversight of Hamilton Affordable Housing Association (partner property management Not for Profit)
Compliance (for both charity and NFP):
- CRA and other government requirements compliance reporting and updating
- legal engagement to ensure compliance in all areas
- insurance
Programs:
- day to day operations management (ensure staff are equipped to lead programming)
- evaluation/decision-making regarding current and new programming
- program policies and protocol
Facilities/Office:
- ensure smooth management of facilities and offices
- office equipment and supplies management
- ensuring property management is in place, active and supported
Partnerships/Donors/Fundraising:
- networking with operational partners (church groups, community groups, social service partners, etc.)
- fundraising lead (providing leadership to staff as they run fundraising events)
- small to mid-level donor engagement lead (working together with staff to ensure small & mid-level donors are well engaged – invited in and stewarded)
General Expectations:
The Operations Director will hold the responsibility for the smooth running of Helping Hands Street Mission. The position will primarily involve on-site, mostly 9-5, work days but with the understanding that the position of director leading a charity that has programs running throughout the week and weekend, raises funds through donations for its operations and owns its building, will require time commitment flexibility.
The Operations Director will be a committed Christian who will align closely with the mission, vision and values of the organization, as well as the organization’s belief statements, and can lead the operation of the organization in accordance with these goals, values and beliefs.
The Operations Director will have the capacity to lead the organization in all operational aspects. The ideal candidate would hold a social sciences degree and/or a certificate in Not for Profit/Charity management/leadership as well as relevant work experience. The Operations Director will have at least 5 years of experience leading a team and managing administration, budgeting and reporting. They must be an excellent communicator, possess great attention to detail, be highly organized and self-directed. They must also have a good understanding of healthy, asset-based community development and have a minimum of 5 years of experience working/volunteering in a social service-type setting.
