Position Description
The Director of International Programs role is a permanent full-time hybrid position located in Mississauga, Ontario.
Reporting to the CEO, the Director of International Programs will lead the expansion of ERDO’s global programming. Expansion would include developing innovative approaches to sustainable community development, establishing progressive partner relationships and deepening existing partnerships. Working closely with the CEO and as a key member of the Lead Team, the Director of International Programs will provide tactical expertise and leadership to ERDO’s global initiatives and support its vision.
This role will be of most interest to an individual passionate about individual and community transformation, with proven leadership experience working with national church fellowships to mobilize change. The successful candidate will have an entrepreneurial track record, and the ability to be resourceful and creative in developing solutions. This role will best suit an individual with a demonstrated ability to enhance the effectiveness of existing programs as well as envision new solutions to existing challenges.
The ideal candidate will bring 10 years of International Development experience. The candidate will bring a sound understanding of emergency relief and development practices, and a vision to implement such practices so as to deepen the quality of programming. The demands of this role will also call for a professional who has proven their ability to engage with direct reports as well as international and external cross–denominational program partners.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement the international program strategy, in conjunction with the CEO
- Identify and advocate for projects and programs in keeping with ERDO’s program strategy
- Develop, implement, monitor, and report on international programs and budgets
- Manage, lead and develop International Program team
- Monitor projects according to organizational policy, established Agency Agreements and internationally accepted standards of care
- Establish and uphold program best practices and facilitate communities of practice
- Develop, strengthen and maintain partnerships with national churches, governmental and non-governmental organizations in consultation with ERDO’s CEO
- Liaise and partner with PAOC’s Mission Global Team, PAOC Regional Directors and Global Workers
- Cultivate working relationships within the Canadian Foodgrains Bank network of church agencies
- Contribute to annual planning and creation of an annual Business Plan and budget
- Collaborate with the CEO and other members of ERDO’s Lead Team to assist in the strategic vision and plan in all areas that intersect with on field initiatives
- Develop and refine effective reporting tools regarding international program initiatives; keep CEO and Director of Resource Development informed of progress across program platform
- Advise on the deployment of ERDO personnel and volunteers internationally
- Be willing and capable of both national and international travel, as necessary
Qualifications
Core Competencies and Experience:
- Mature Christian character, able to uphold ERDO’s Christian values and standards of conduct
- Respect for and commitment to the Mission, Vision, and Core Values of ERDO
- Master’s Degree, preferred in an applicable discipline
- Proven field leadership with 10 years of progressively senior experience, preferably in an NGO and/or National Church Fellowship
- Experience in global programming that have made a positive impact and required partnerships with agencies, particularly in relief and development, is necessary
- Well-developed theology and philosophy of ministry to the poor and transformational community development
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Ability to effectively manage and direct ERDO’s program team
- Demonstrated initiative, self-leadership and an ability to set and meet deadlines
- Significant experience in working with church communities and church leadership
- Talent for establishing and maintaining positive, professional relationships with supporters and donors
- A citizen or permanent resident of Canada or the ability to legally work in Canada
