Position Description

The Director of Worship (DOW) will be responsible for providing musical leadership and oversight to Victory Baptist Church's overall worship ministry. The DOW will work closely with the Lead Pastor to plan Sunday morning worship services and special events (e.g., Easter and Christmas) and will be the main worship leader for most Sunday mornings. The DOW will create an atmosphere where the congregation can express their praise, love, and commitment to God through song and music. The DOW will oversee the worship ministry's audio, video and lighting tech.

  • Reports to: Lead Pastor
  • Position Type: Part-time (10-12 hours per week)
  • Term: 1-year renewable contract

Skills and Qualifications

  • Professes personal faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour.
  • Has been baptized, by immersion, as a believer in Jesus Christ.
  • Gives evidence of being a follower of Jesus Christ by a biblical pattern of living.
  • Agree to the Statement of Faith, By-Laws and Policy Statements of VBCEG.
  • Formal theological education not required, but must have a solid grasp of the Scriptures and Christian theology such that you can lead others spiritually and evaluate worship music.
  • A member of Victory Baptist Church (or willing to become a member).
  • Musically skilled in vocals and in a musical instrument capable of leading a worship service (e.g., guitar, piano, keyboard).
  • Experience musically leading worship services in a contemporary style with a blend of songs from different eras.
  • Experience leading band rehearsals.
  • Competent (or able to quickly learn and gain competency) in audio, video, and lighting production tools (e.g., sound board, microphones, computers, video cameras, ProPresenter, lighting and live streaming software).
  • Experience scheduling and service planning with Planning Center (or able to learn the software quickly).
  • Works well with others and in a team environment.
  • Well organized.

Work Commitment

The DOW is a part-time position requiring a commitment of 10-12 hours per week. This includes:

  • A weekly meeting with the Lead Pastor for worship planning and coordination.
  • Weekly worship team practice to prepare for Sunday services.
  • Preparation and leadership for Sunday morning worship, including setup and soundcheck.
  • Participation in special events (e.g., Easter, Christmas), including advance preparation and rehearsals prior to the event services, which may require additional hours.

Responsibilities

  • Regularly leading the music and worship teams on Sunday mornings.
  • Strategically planning the Sunday morning worship services alongside the Lead Pastor.
  • Selecting a blended (contemporary and traditional) collection of worship songs that are doctrinally sound and Christ-centered.
  • Leading weekly band rehearsals to ensure the quality of our worship music is growing and developing, along with our audio and video skills. We hope to be a church where people of varying skill levels can contribute their musical gifts but still support the existence of reasonable musical standards to ensure our music is of acceptable quality.
  • Preparing the sheet music and stage for band rehearsals and services.
  • Overseeing the worship ministry's audio, video, and lighting tech.
  • Scheduling the worship band and a/v team for Sunday morning and other special worship events.
  • Providing or arranging training for leaders, musicians, and a/v technicians for the Sunday morning service in the area of music.
  • Maintaining the church's Spotify playlist.
  • Developing and managing the worship budget.
