Position Description

James North Baptist Church (JNBC) is a vibrant, multi-ethnic church located in the North End of Hamilton. Our mission is to “join God as His Spirit builds Christ’s kingdom in our lives, neighbourhoods, and city.”

We recognize the vital importance of biblical training for youth and young adults. Therefore, we do not see this ministry as a “stepping stone” or secondary role, but rather as a high calling to disciple the next generation. The suitable candidate should share this deep commitment to guiding young people in their faith and equipping them to follow Christ in all areas of life.

The Youth and Young Adults Ministry Director will oversee ministry efforts for students from grades 6–12 and young adults in their college and career years. This includes a weekly youth gathering for Jr. High, a weekly youth gathering for Sr. High, a Sunday School program for Jr. High, outreach initiatives, retreats, and leadership development opportunities. Currently, there are about 20 students in Jr. High, 20 students in Sr. High, 30 students in the Young Adults program, and 20 youth in our outreach basketball program.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will have completed, or nearly completed, a Bible College program or other applicable program, and/or has demonstrated experience in ministry leadership. Consideration will be given to those who have experience and would be willing to begin a Bible College, or other appropriate, program.

Scope:

The Youth and Young Adults Ministry Director will oversee the church’s efforts to disciple Jr. High and Sr. High students, partner with and support parents of youth, and equip volunteers within our church and the broader community.

In the Young Adults portfolio, the Director will oversee a leadership team of Young Adults, enabling them to lead the ministry.

Time Allocation:

Full-Time (open to this being a shared role)

  • Ministry Programming: 40%
  • Youth/Young Adult Care: 30%

  5. Work with the Young Adult’s Leadership Team to cultivate and develop the ministry within the life of JNBC. This will include teaching monthly and working to integrate the Young Adult community with the larger body of the church.
  6. Give oversight to the variety of programs JNBC currently offers (as stated above) while discerning when those ministries need to be adjusted, overhauled, or shut down. The weekly Jr. High and Sr. High programs are to be run directly by the Youth and Young Adults Director.
  7. Work alongside the Children and Family Ministries Directors to develop and implement a shepherding plan to care for, engage with, and equip families as they walk through the challenges of raising youth in Hamilton in today's culture.
  8. Attend regular church staff meetings and other church-wide services and functions.
  9. Submit and effectively manage the budget for the youth and young adults’ ministries.
  10. Help with other church-wide events as needed.
