Position Description
In order to enhance the proclamation of God's Word and to enrich the act of worship in an integrated and unified manner the Director/Pastor of Worship is to provide musical leadership for the congregation in its life and worship services, nurturing musical gifts and accompanying worship through a variety of musical methodologies.
Key Responsibilities
The Director/Pastor of Worship at Covenant will:
Vision
- Inspire, encourage, model and develop vision for the nurture of using music in worship both through congregational life and in worship services
- Participate in vision-setting and strategy development for Covenant Church, especially as it relates to worship
Worship Service Planning: Music
- Work with the pastor(s), Worship Ministry, and volunteers in the planning of worship services to develop worship that is both awe-inspiring and intimate. There are two essential elements to this planning: a) selecting music and b) developing the liturgy. Both are to be developed thematically based on a preaching schedule prepared by the Senior Pastor on a quarterly basis. The liturgy is to be developed together with the Senior Pastor or in consultation with the Senior Pastor.
Worship Co-Ordination
- Provide and assign musical accompaniment for the musical selections chosen. This responsibility shall include:
- oversight and scheduling of the organist, pianists, praise teams, choirs, and other instrumentalists
- oversight of the maintenance/enhancement of church instruments
- practicing alongside and providing leadership to all those practicing the music selections for worship (praise teams, choirs, etc.)
- playing music: organ, piano, other, etc.
- Provide music-in-worship support to programs related to the ministries of Covenant including Youth and Young Adult Ministry, Outreach Ministry, Children’s Worship, etc.
- Lead choirs or other instrumental groups, praise teams for worship services
- Prepare through rehearsals and/or practicing, both with teams and personally
- Attend and provide leadership and guidance to meetings of the Worship Ministry
- Prepare all visual presentations related to worship service ie., music selection, liturgy within the Easy Worship program or other related program, visual backgrounds, and the accompanying print copy for worship service distribution
Leadership Development
- Provide leadership and support to the volunteers in carrying out their ministry
- Form part of the Leadership Team and attend meetings of the Leadership Team
Other Responsibilities
- Participate in personal and professional development
- Maintain communications with staff and volunteers to ensure that administrative tasks of the church are carried out in ways that are efficient and fully integrated into the overall ministry of Covenant Church
- Maintain AV equipment, livestream setup, and oversee the AV volunteers
- Give guidance to the Worship Ministry Team to create visuals for worship throughout the church year
- Purchase music and instruments as required
- Maintain copyright procedures for music
- Oversee the maintenance and repair of instruments
- Be responsible for the maintenance of music materials and the library of music
- Perform such other responsibilities from time to time as are deemed necessary by Council in order to accomplish the role

- Have proven interpersonal skills and the ability to work with a variety of different people
- Have a proven ability to navigate and perform various computer applications related to worship service presentations

Prerequisite Requirements
The Director/Pastor of Worship at Covenant will:
- Be sound in their daily walk with God
- Preferably have a Bachelor of Music degree, or equivalent experience
- Preferably have a minimum of 3 years experience as a music co-ordinator with experience in teaching and equipping others, or similar equivalent experience
- Have good inter-personal skills
- Have the necessary computer application skills
Salary
This is a Full-time salaried position at 37.5 hours per week
