Director of Worship and Faith Formation
Located in Whitby Ontario, Hebron Christian Reformed Church serves a diverse community, offering services in both English and Mandarin. Our ministries include children’s ministry, small group ministry, young adult ministry and active support for local groups and ministries.
Position Description
The Director of Worship and Faith Formation has two areas of responsibility: plan and coordinate engaging and gospel-centered worship for Sunday services and other worship events, contributing to the spiritual development of the Hebron congregation; mentor and encourage the faith formation of the congregation and especially the young people at Hebron, including the oversight and direction of all programming and related pastoral care for this segment of the congregation.
Key Responsibilities
Worship
- Meet and collaborate regularly with the Lead Pastor and other ministry leaders to plan and coordinate each aspect of Sunday services, worship events and other church-wide programs within the Reformed tradition
- Oversee planning and execution of the creative and technical elements including song selection, arrangements, stage design, liturgical flow, visual aids (media presentations, video and audio production) and any other needed material
- Direct, develop, and nurture vocal and instrumental music and teams during rehearsal, weekly services, and special events
- Schedule musicians and all service participants (i.e., worship and technical volunteers) for each week and participate on worship teams as scheduled and needed
- Provide leadership, training, and direction for the technical support ministries such as sound, video, lighting, YouTube live streaming, podcast, and multimedia presentation teams
- Communicate effectively with the Congregation relevant information pertaining to worship at Hebron
- Coordination with Hebron leadership to ensure the emphasis of Hebron ministries are reflected on Sunday mornings
Faith Formation
- Purposefully build mentoring and discipling relationships with young people emphasizing the Reformed theological distinctives
- Provide oversight, direction, and pastoral care for all aspects of this ministry
- Identify creative ways to engage young people in the life of the congregation
- Represent the needs of the young people in ministry planning and discussions
- Oversee and coordinate all aspects of volunteer management including recruitment, security clearance process, training, and scheduling
- Ensure full compliance with the Plan to Protect for all events and programming, both in person and online
Admin / Other
- Attend and participate in weekly staff meetings, contributing to the development of church life
- Commit to continuing professional and spiritual development, which may include participation in local conferences/events
- Other duties as required
Requirements
- Be a passionate follower of Christ, who pursues a deeper relationship with God through prayer, Bible study, worship, and fellowship in community
- Spiritually mature with a desire to grow deeper in your relationship with Jesus
- A passion for shepherding and growing the church’s heart of worship and mentoring young people to further their personal faith journey
- Experience leading a team and / or ministry, particularly in the area of worship and youth
- Proficiencies in vocals and at guitar and / or piano / keyboard an asset
- Gifts of encouragement, discernment and music creativity
- Comprehensive knowledge of the technical aspects of worship, including familiarity with personnel management applications and presentation software, stage lighting, sound board, live streaming, and associated technologies
- Well developed time management and organizational skills
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to listen
- Gospel focused, gentle and respectful approach to all interactions
- Exemplifies a servant heart and attitude
Position Status
One year, part-time position (30 hours per week @$45K annually) with the potential for renewal. Reports to the Lead Pastor and Church Council.
