Position Description

The Associate Pastor of Youth and Young Adults is the leader responsible for shaping the ministry vision, providing program direction, and effectively implementing these to the First Baptist Church-Peace River Youth Group and related ministries. 

Some of the duties for this position include providing Bible-based teaching, biblical counselling, as well as planning events and functions for the youth and young adults.
An undergraduate degree from an accredited Christian institution is required, with a preference towards Biblical/Theological training.  

This is a full-time position of 40 hours a week from Sunday through Friday. There will be a standard three-month probationary period to the benefit of both the employer and employee.
This position is directly supervised by the Lead Pastor. The Associate Youth Pastor is directly accountable to the Board of Elders and the Church Council. Attendance at all meetings related to the above accountability requirements is mandatory.

 General Responsibilities: 

  • Maintain a strong professional image reflecting the church's mission statement.
  • Be subject to an annual review of pastoral and congregational ministries.
  • Liaise with the Elders Board and Executive Council, giving and receiving guidance and vision for the present and ongoing Youth and Young Adult Ministry of the church.
  • Maintain a record of daily and monthly routines and occurrences, and share ministry updates with the Elders Board and council on a regular basis.
  • Supporting the Lead Pastor.
  • Responsible for the church’s youth and young adult ministry, including weekly programs and special events.
  • Help to mentor and integrate youth and young adults into leadership and serving roles within the church.
  • Responsible for recruiting and training lay people to join in the ministry to the youth.
  • Responsible for coordinating and planning functions for the Youth and Young Adults.
  • Responsible for some administrative duties, including being part of the pastoral team, attending staff, Elder and Council Meetings
  • Responsible for coordinating the participation of youth in a conference or retreat every year.
  • Responsible for the youth Sunday School.
  • Use pastoral and counselling skills for all members of the church, with an emphasis on youth.
  • Participate in worship services.
  • Assume preaching responsibilities six to nine times per year 
  • Participate with and involve the Youth Parent Committee to collaborate on curriculum and resources for youth ministries.
  • Willing to obtain a Marriage license and perform weddings.

  • Born-again believer, baptized, and disciple of Jesus Christ.
  • Have a strong understanding of the Gospel.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Exceptional problem-solving and conflict resolution skills.
  • Strong speaking and presentation skills.
  • Good active listening and willingness to help.
  • Service-oriented with genuine care for the well-being of people.
  • Excellent social perceptiveness and engagement.
  • Event planning skills and experience.
  • Managerial skills and experience.

Desired Attributes: 

  • Have a love for young people and a strong sense of God’s calling to this ministry.
  • Have a heart for outreach and evangelism, willing to nurture growing believers to fulfill the mission of the Church.  Ephesians 4:11-16.
  • Have high Christian standards, humility, and integrity, displaying a high level of spiritual maturity, and be able to use these attributes in their teaching and ministries.
  • Meet the character requirements of an Elder as listed in 1 Timothy 3, be willing to subscribe to the Pastoral Code of Ethics and generally accepted Baptist policy and practice.
  • Have an intimate living relationship with God, a consistent prayer and devotional life, and a heart that seeks God’s approval above all else.
  • Be dependable, a finisher and when necessary, able to make decisions on the spot.
  • They must be able to share their faith and make it practical and relevant 
  • They should possess experience in working with youth, having the ability to relate well to them, coordinate youth volunteers and earn the trust of the parents
  • Be teachable and willing to take direction, while possessing strong leadership and organizational skills. They should be able to facilitate and equip others rather than assume a “do it all yourself” role.
