Position Description

The Toronto Garden Church is a young faith community largely made up youth and adult members. There are a total of 30-35 members who call Garden home, where we meet on Sundays at 260 Yorkland Blvd. We are seeking for a Lead Pastor for the English Congregation with the heart and passion to teach, shepherd and coach our members as we live out our Christian faith. 

The Lead Pastor will be responsible for the development and maintenance of the congregation of members at Toronto Garden Church – English Ministry and Youth Ministry. In particular, this role will create opportunities for mentorship and coaching of EM members to develop and co-lead the Youth Ministry. The Lead Pastor will have experience leading and growing local churches and church plants.

Key Operational Duties:

  • Leadership
    • Demonstrates deep foundational knowledge of the Christian faith and God’s calling to minister to the congregation
    • Demonstrates a supportive climate where everyone is encouraged to find, build, nurture their faith and versatility in leadership style in all scenarios
    • Demonstrates willingness to work with Korean Ministry leadership as a bridge to mend relationships
    • Works with the EM Leadership Team to build long-term visions for the congregation and strategies to execute those plans
  • Communication and Relationships
    • Collaborates with Leadership Team on both internal and external communication related to activities/events, church protocol, special events, and any other related matters that may arise
    • Develops and nurtures strong professional relationships with Korean Ministry leaders and congregation and leverages these relationships to support future leadership transitions within the Korean Ministry
    • Develops and nurtures strong professional relationships with Korean Ministry leaders and congregation to break down barriers, collaborate as a single church congregation, and align on long-term conjoined visions
  • Congregational Activities
    • Develops, plans and co-leads teaching opportunities including Bible study, topic studies, and book studies
    • Participates (and leads) all foundational Christian events throughout the calendar year (Easter, Christmas, etc.)
    • Develops and executes leadership training opportunities for congregational members
    • Participates, and leads when necessary, community outreach activities, as determined by the Leadership Team
    • Delivers regular weekly sermons each Sunday, except when on vacation

Educational Requirements

  • Graduate degree from an accredited Christian seminary

Work Experience Requirements

  • 5+ years of working with a congregation of more than 20 people and responsible for developing and maintaining Christian foundational faith-based activities
  • Experience in leading local, intimate Christian congregations (e.g., community and/or church plants)
