Position Description

Oversee all maintenance and domestic aspects of the ministry, at our 2 locations, including: coordination of domestic volunteers; coordination of cleaning and overall maintenance of house and yard; purchase of food, cleaning, and household supplies; reception and organization of all gifts in kind


  • maintenance training and/or experience
  • ability to keep a home in order, supervise and encourage volunteers
  • well organized, reliable, good communicator, cross culturally sensitive
  • ability to multi task and deal with the public
  • committed to uphold the organization’s mission, values and standards
  • valid drivers license (and vehicle) an asset

Key Responsibilities

  • ensure that the house and storage areas (including garage) are kept clean and well organized (both by doing it oneself and coordinating with volunteers and residents)
  • yard work including lawn mowing, leaf and snow removal, some light landscaping
  • ensure that garbage and recycling are kept in proper order and disposed of in an appropriate manner (both by monitoring containers and garbage area and by educating residents in garbage/recycling disposal)
  • house maintenance: drywall repair/painting, minor plumbing, electrical, and appliance repair, other minor repairs
  • arrange service for urgent maintenance and repairs that are beyond the scope of training and ability
  • pest control as necessary beyond scope of pest control contract
  • in discussion with E.D. plan renovation projects
  • ensure that fire alarms are inspected and batteries replaced regularly
  • coordinate all aspects of food supply: including grocery shopping, food storage and reception of Second Harvest donations
  • ensure that rooms are cleaned between occupants; bedding has been laundered
  • communicate regularly with other staff regarding household concerns
  • attend and actively contribute to weekly staff meetings and house meetings
  • along with all staff, ensure that clients adhere to the terms & conditions of Adam House and take appropriate action for breach of conduct

Necessary Training (to be provided)

  • First Aid and CPR
  • Non-violent Crises Prevention/Intervention (CPI)
  • Safe Food Handling Certificate
