Position Description

The Providence University College and Seminary campus is on 100 acres in southern Manitoba, 30 minutes south of Winnipeg. For nearly a century Providence has been a Christian academic community in the evangelical tradition that teaches people to grow in knowledge and character for leadership and service.

The IT Department depends on a cooperative team atmosphere to provide a reliable, secure, and functional IT environment.  Providence is looking for a humble and hardworking employee to join our IT team.  Reporting to the Vice President Administration, the Website Developer is a mid-level technical position primarily responsible for assisting Providence by providing coding expertise required for building, modifying, and maintaining our websites. There is some IT support work which will provide day-to-day support of Providence IT users. This position will work alongside the entire IT team which works together and is responsible for the upkeep, configuration, and reliable operation of Providence computer systems, servers, and data security systems.

Applicants must have:

  • A proven ability to juggle multiple projects simultaneously and deliver on them by their respective deadlines
  • A solid understanding of OOP PHP
  • Expertise in fundamental front-end and back-end languages including HTML5, AJAX, Razor Script, Bootstrap, CSS, and JavaScript
  • A strong understanding and implementation of both desktop and mobile UI/UX
  • Modern web development experience
  • Knowledge of databases - Microsoft SQL and the SQL, C#, jQuery, XQuery, JavaScript language
  • A solid grasp of responsive web design fundamentals
  • High proficiency in the English language

Applicants must possess:

  • A degree/Diploma in Web Design or a related field
  • A minimum of 2+ years of website development experience
  • Strong communication, conceptual thinking, and design skills
  • An ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • Familiarity with the use of Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and other social networking sites/platforms
  • A love for technology and a passion for learning and teaching
  • Experience with physical hardware installation and maintenance (servers, desktops, and networking hardware and cabling)
  • Experience with a wide range of technology including computers, peripherals, personal devices, and sound equipment
  • Very strong attention to detail
  • Ability to learn new concepts and apply them quickly
  • Proficient in MS Office 365

Work arrangement:

  • Physical ability to lift and carry computer equipment up to 70 lb. up and down stairs and climb a stepladder
  • Typical hours are Monday through Friday 8:15 am to 4:30 pm (7.5 hr per day)
  • Occasional evenings and/or weekend work will be required to support special events or in emergency technical situations
