Position Description

Full-time (including Sunday mornings and some evenings)

To utilize your spiritual gifts and experience to develop disciples of our youth and young adults who love Jesus, live like Jesus and lead others to Jesus.

Supervision and Support: Reports to the rector and collaborates with all staff. Oversees the youth volunteer team.

Population(s) Served: Junior youth (grades 6-8), senior youth (grades 9-12), young adults (age 18-30), volunteer leaders and parents of youth.

Position Expectations

  • Establish and implement a five year vision and strategic plan for both youth and young adult ministries
  • Keep current with best practices and resources that support Youth and Young Adult Ministries as well as relevant trends and issues through participation in ongoing spiritual and professional development
  • Establish outreach to youth in the community and local schools

Youth Ministry (70%)

  • Teach biblically based messages and create environments, activities and programming that will facilitate learning, discussion, community, spiritual growth and fun during weekly evening and Sunday morning programs
  • Create a family-friendly ministry that partners with parents in the development and growth of their youth, providing resources and support for christian parenting
  • Recruit and oversee all youth ministry volunteers for youth ministry, providing leadership, training, appreciation and accountability
  • Provide one-on-one spiritual care and mentoring, as well as prayer support as needs arise
  • Manage and deliver youth church events and teaching programs such as youth retreats, conference attendance and the Alpha course, as well as mission trips and community outreach
  • Lead the youth in experiencing a broader church connection by, 1) exploring with them their call to serve and love the marginal and oppressed, and 2) helping them to understand their connection with the global christian community

Young Adult Ministry (15%)

  • Serve as a relational point of contact and resource for those students going away to university/college: facilitate transition both into university christian communities, and back into the Trinity community upon graduation
  • Oversee one-on-one discipleship program for young adults
  • Encourage and support the young adult group and help them transition to full adult membership in the church

Administrative and Church-wide Responsibilities (15%)

  • Create and maintain youth and young adult ministry social media presence
  • Manage youth database and track attendance
  • Prepare and submit an annual budget, and maintain ministry spending accordingly. Track and submit expenses in a timely manner
  • Collaborate with the staff team on church events, programs and teaching themes
  • Ensure all youth and young adult ministry volunteers are current in the Anglican Diocese’ required Screening in Faith process
  • Meet regularly with Rector who will provide oversight, guidance, mentoring and prayer and attend weekly staff meetings

Required Skills & Training

  • Strong Christian faith and commitment to personal spiritual formation and growth
  • Rich theological understanding (degree or diploma in Theology an asset)
  • Training and experience in Christian Youth Ministry
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, organizational and listening skills
  • Cultural sensitivity for people of diverse backgrounds
  • Knowledge of reporting protocol and referral processes to access youth support/resources
  • Genuine compassion and respect for all persons
  • Conflict resolution skills
  • Understanding of him/herself as a Christian role model
  • The ability to set and maintain personal boundaries
  • The ability to work with a team and/or alone
