Position Description

Job type: Full-time; school year contract
Salary: Commensurate with experience

Pickering Christian School is a Christian Elementary school (JK - Grade 8) that has been in operation for over 30 years in the Durham Region. Contract dates: September 1, 2021 - June 30, 2022
Hours: Monday to Friday - 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM


  • To work under the direction of the classroom teacher and be expected to assist with the implementation of the instructional plans
  • To work with all students to promote educational, social and emotional development
  • Assists the teacher in planning and preparation for daily activities
  • Provides support to the teacher to ensure a safe and stimulating education environment
  • Present subject matter to students under the guidance of the teacher
  • Assists students individually or in groups with lesson assignments to present or reinforce learning concepts
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned ie bulletin boards, photocopying, marking
  • To take responsibility for professional development and to work in a collaborative working environment
  • Work closely with the lead teacher to identify issues the students are having and develop appropriate solutions

Job Requirements

  • Experience working in a school or educational setting
  • Excellent verbal and written communication
  • Great organizational skills
  • Collaboration and teamwork skills
  • A positive, empathetic and loving attitude
  • Ability to understand and follow safety procedures
  • Supervision skills in the classroom and on the school yard
  • Ability to provide supportive and caring environment for students
  • Minimum experience of 2 years as an Educational Assistant preferred
  • Proven ability to use technology (PC, SmartBoard, Chromebooks, Google classroom) in the classroom
  • Demonstrated ability to take direction and be open to feedback and new learning opportunities
  • Attend teacher meetings and training sessions when requested
