Uxbridge Baptist Church (UBC) is a dynamic, mid-sized, evangelical church, located in Uxbridge, Ontario. Our church is well known in our community, having been established over 160 years ago, and located at its current address in the West end of town, almost 60 years ago. Objective

The Youth Pastor will be highly relational and collaborate in providing engaging programming for the youth of Uxbridge Baptist Church (UBC) and the surrounding community. The Youth Pastor will foster meaningful relationships with both the Junior High (Gr. 6-8) and Senior High (Gr. 9-12) youth. He/she will work with the Lead Pastor to effectively support the Mission, Vision and Beliefs of UBC with a youth focus. He/she will continue the vibrant youth ministry that has been a part of UBC for many decades.

  • Is a person of integrity, open and transparent, who cares deeply for youth, relates well to them and is willing to spend time interacting with them
  • Interacts well with people and in teams
  • Is able to mentor effectively
  • Demonstrates a shepherd’s heart
  • Has a proven understanding of relevant biblical teaching
  • Is able to incorporate worship and messages for people who do not typically attend church
  • Is aligned with the UBC Membership Covenant, Statement of Faith and Lifestyle & Morality Standards

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Provide overall leadership of the following vital components of the UBC Youth Ministry: Student Ministry Leadership Team (Sr.), Small Groups, Friday Night Youth Events (Sr.), Quest Events (Jr.), Sunday School, Adult Leadership Team, Retreats, Special Events, Mission Trips
  • Support and encourage the total ministry of the church
  • Be responsible for disciplining, challenging and guiding youth in their spiritual growth and biblical understanding
  • Attend meetings as required and provide appropriate reports at the request of the Lead Pastor
  • Attend all youth leadership meetings and other planning meetings where applicable
  • Be responsible for the development of personal contacts and relationships with youth and their families within the congregation and the Uxbridge community
  • Develop an effective team of youth leaders (Sr.) and adult leaders to assist in youth ministry
  • Develop outreach ministries to youth in the community
  • Develop relationships with other evangelical youth organizations, youth leaders, and groups in other churches in our area
  • Encourage youth to get involved in the life of the church by focusing on giftedness and serving
  • Support the transition process between Jr. and Sr. youth
  • Establish an intentional mentorship program for the youth
  • Communicate effectively with youth and parents
  • Administer youth roster/database, budget, forms and policies needed for events
  • Provide spiritual care/visitation to youth when necessary
  • Assist on a regular basis in worship services to maintain visibility with the rest of the congregation and to contribute to a youth emphasis
  • Establish appropriate contacts (as feasible) in the schools of the community
  • Participate as a vital member of the UBC pastoral team
  • Interact with the Church Council and other committees as appropriate

Working Relationships

  • Accountable to the Lead Pastor on a day-to-day basis, and ultimately to the Church Council and the congregation
  • Supports and partners with other UBC Ministry Leaders
  • Must become a member of UBC

Qualifications

The Youth Pastor will:

  • Be committed to Christ, and have an active, vibrant and effective personal witness
  • Be enrolled or have completed course work in a biblical training program or pursuing a post-secondary degree program in biblical and theological studies (youth focus)
  • Have practical experience in youth ministry
  • Have a strong commitment to a youth led ministry, based upon an empowering ministry model
  • Have excellent leadership qualities and the desire and ability to relate to young people, parents, leaders and other adults in a manner that demonstrates and fosters care and respect
  • Have skills/experiences in being both a valued team leader and team member
  • Have an interest in and an understanding of youth issues and needs within the culture of which they are a part – stay informed on major influences and trends within youth cultures
  • Be committed to the faith and practice of Uxbridge Baptist Church
  • Have a strong commitment to youth outreach and evangelism
  • Be supportive of the use of music, drama, dance and sports for ministry
  • Communicate well with youth one on one and speaking to a group
  • Possess a valid driver’s license
