Position Description

The Position

The Athletic Coordinator contract position is a short-term appointment managing the day-to-day operation of Royals varsity administration and Athletic Center facilities under the supervision of the Athletics Director.

Responsibilities

Varsity Administration

  • Communicates with students and coaching staff directly regarding team schedules, road trip plans, and other details weekly. 
  • Communicates with OCAA member colleges regarding competition plans. 
  • Submits OCAA forms for awards such as Athlete of the Week, OCAA All-Stars, etc. to the Athletic Director for submission to league offices.

Facility Administration

  • Creates and maintains the gymnasium and weight room schedule, including all varsity, intramural, extramural, rentals, and physical education class activities. The athletic coordinator for facilities controls the master gymnasium Google calendar.
  • Creates the varsity practice schedule. The scheduling of all varsity practices is a significant portion of the gymnasium schedule. This is done at the beginning of every sport season with input from coaches and the registrar's office.
  • Responsible for ensuring the facilities remain safe and clean. Daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning and maintenance schedules for the entire athletic facilities are created for student-staff and tracked by the athletic coordinator.

Athletic Center Management

  • Supervise Athletic Centre Staff. Supervision responsibilities include help if there is a problem or question, regular interaction and communication with staff, assignment of tasks and duties on shift, regular staff evaluations to ensure that they are performing their job correctly, possible re-training sessions, and the enforcement of policies and procedures.  
  • Schedules work-study hours after reviewing the academic and personal schedules of the Athletic Center Staff. These schedules include regular hours of operation and varsity home games as well as additional gym rentals, special events, and front desk coverage. Weekend, exam, and holiday schedules also require special unassigned schedules to be created. 

Additional Responsibilities

  • Attends meetings within the department and OCAA to assist the Athletic Director. 
  • Supports the Athletic Department delivering a robust and safe Campus Recreation intramural program.

Preferred Skills and Attributes

  • Superior interpersonal skills, including the ability to work well with students and Athletic Center patrons.
  • Strong leadership skills; experience with training and supervising staff; strong relationship skills. 
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to use basic office software, including G-suite, MS Excel, MS Word, and MS PowerPoint.
  • Proven ability to problem solve and set priorities effectively.
  • Self-motivated; takes initiative and works effectively and independently with minimal supervision.

Education/Training/Certifications

  • Baccalaureate Degree (preferably in Recreation and Leisure Studies, Kinesiology, or Sports Administration) or equivalent in combined education and work experience.
  • Work experience in sports administration. 
  • Experience and knowledge in a variety of sports and their respective sport regulating bodies. 
  • Previous related work experience (3+ years) and familiarity in working with athletes and coaches at a high-performance level.
  • First Aid and CPR Training.
