Position Description

Supervisor of program and guest services.  Reports to the General Director.  Responsible to manage a junior team.  Must be available to work weekends.

Major responsibilities

Whether they be supervision/planning or everyday duties to be fulfilled, including but not limited to the following responsibilities:

  • Oversee the program department ensuring that camp programs run smoothly and effectively
  • Maintain safety standards for camp programs
  • Develop new programming maximizing JOY’s facilities and resources in accordance with the vision of Joy Bible Camp
  • Recruit new business and represent JOY at conferences, camp fairs, and other events
  • Manage the program budget with the direction given by the Finance Director
  • Manage inventory and provide maintenance for the program equipment, program facilities, and supplies. 
  • Supervise the summer program team and year-round guest services, team
  • Provide guests with the optimum experience by working with group leaders and summer camp  directors to help plan their program, set expectations for their stay, and coordinate with other departments in preparation for incoming retreats and camp programs
  • Provide Guest Services to retreat groups and summer camps by providing communication of camp policies, managing building use and security, program facilitation, operating sound and audiovisual systems, and hosting guests as the JOY liaison during their stay

Summer Camp Responsibilities

  • Provide supervision and direction to the summer teams assigned
  • Work directly with JOY Camp Directors and JOY staff to plan, facilitate, and schedule activities
  • Provide leadership to the summer program team in creating a Family Camp program and schedule for guests.  
  • Purchase supplies and create an experience within the budget provided by the Finance Director. 
  • Ensure all programming is scheduled, set up and facilitated following the health & safety protocol of the camp.
  • Be the JOY liaison to summer camp guests providing direction and clear communication, and providing a positive guest experience which includes hosting the Family Camp sessions.
  • Operate boats as needed and obtain valid boating licenses
  • Support Staff Care events and activities throughout the summer 
  • Operate sound systems and video projection programs during chapel services, training provided. 
  • Proper seasonal opening/winterization of program facilities and equipment.  
  • Assist in other areas of the camp, as needed. 

Retreat Season Responsibilities

  • Hosting retreat groups and JOY getaway guests by welcoming them upon arrival, providing program facilitation, serving guests by responding to requests, assisting food services staff with making coffee and serving snacks, and communicating guest information to other staff members, as needed.
  • Provide supervision and direction to the junior guest services team.  Schedule staff as needed based on incoming bookings.
  • Network with church and youth groups working directly with the Camp Registrar to establish program needs for incoming retreat groups.  Responsible for organizing, set-up and facilitating programming as requested. 
  • Oversee opening retail stores and operating the point of sale system.
  • Proper seasonal opening/winterization of program facilities and equipment.  
  • Create & maintain outdoor recreational activities such as the skating rink, trails, tubing hill, etc. 
  • Housekeeping tasks, as needed. 
  • Seasonal tasks such as snow removal (shoveling walkways), building fires, monitoring thermostats, etc.
