Mission and Vision of Lighthouse

To invite people into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ and others by loving God, living in community, and serving the world.

Purpose of This Position

The purpose of this position is to provide spiritual, pastoral, and managerial leadership in all areas of ministry in order to fulfill the purpose and vision of Lighthouse Community Church. 

Philosophy of Lighthouse

While providing a place to explore relationship with God and others, Lighthouse is a church that seeks to reach people for whom church is a new experience or a new again experience. This may occur during the weekend services, small groups, and when we host our many outreach and fellowship events.

Lighthouse provides all people with an opportunity to serve according to their gifts, talents, and commitments.

Lighthouse is a church that values small groups following the Acts 2 model of “temple courts and house to house”. People are encouraged to attend public weekend services and be a part of a small group (building relationships, studying the Bible, serving & growing together).We believe life change happens best in the context of small groups.

Lighthouse invites people to come as they are and highly values relationship (Belong, Believe, Behave).

Qualifications, Competencies, and Passions Required

  • Formal theological education;
  • Experience in ministry, teaching, and leading experience and a willingness to work towards or have a Master of Divinity;
  • Inspirational leadership, engaging teaching/preaching, compassionate care & equipping/empowering management of the church;
  • The ability to lead an emerging church of 200 + people to the next level of physical and spiritual growth.

Responsibilities – Lead and Feed

Lead

Be the spiritual and administrative leader of Lighthouse Community Church.

Vision Casting
  • Responsible for organizational clarity (vision, strategy, culture, and results) of Lighthouse, working with the Leadership Team to accomplish the church's mission, ensuring that decisions are based on the church's values and mission;
  • Conduct ongoing evaluation of the implementation and effectiveness of the priorities addressed in our Mission, Vision, and Values;
  • Act as the key implementation champion of the strategic plan as developed in conjunction with the Leadership Team;
  • Continually clarify and highlight the vision of the church through weekend worship experiences and leading the staff/ministry leaders to regularly communicate the same vision.
Leadership Team    
  • Lead in a spirit of cooperation with the Leadership Team;
  • Participate in the planning and leadership of regular Leadership Team meetings and an Annual Leadership Team Retreat that educates, motivates, and supports its members;
  • Work with the Leadership Team to identify “course corrections” when needed;
  • Identify ministry priorities that will move the church closer to our vision and mission;
  • Be an active member of the Leadership Team except when the Leadership Team is acting as the Annual Review Committee or when the Leadership is taking proceedings to dismiss the Pastor as provided herein.
Staff
  • Participate in the hiring of Staff while working in harmony with the Leadership team, within the terms of the budget;
  • Provide leadership and direction for the day to day activities of the Ministry Staff;
  • Develop the Ministry Staff through team building, encouragement, feedback, and spiritual nurturing;
  • Direct the church staff in daily operations, providing counsel, encouragement and complete annual staff reviews.
Community
  • Be the leading edge in the administration and caring for the needs of the church; 
  • Provide pastoral care to the entire congregation either directly or by delegation;
  • Actively and systematically engage with the visitors attending the church;
  • Actively encourage small group participation and growth through modelling, teaching, and new opportunities;
  • Define opportunities for mentoring, coaching, teaching, and relationship-building within the community;
  • Create a leadership process that is implemented across all ministries to strategically develop key leaders, next-level leaders, and emerging leaders;
  • Serve as an ex-officio member of all administrative boards and committees of the church where warranted;
  • Provide support and encouragement to Ministry Leads to ensure that all efforts are in line with the vision of the church;
  • Ensure effective communication with the conference, Leadership, and church community;
  • Provide preliminary counselling in times of crisis as required.

Feed

Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ. (Ephesians 4:11-13)

Weekend Preaching, Teaching, and Worship
  • Oversee all worship services and experiences to ensure they are carried out in line with the mission, vision, and values of Lighthouse;
  • Teach the congregation – create, oversee and participate in a teaching team that is rooted in and consistent with scripture and responsible for all services;
  • Work closely with the worship teams planning themes consistent with the preaching series to create an innovative, comprehensive worship experience;
  • Teach and encourage stewardship and world mission support;
  • Equip and motivate the congregation to live the Good News in their families and community.
Community
  • Conduct communion, baptisms, weddings, and funerals in line with the Evangelical Covenant Church of Canada;
  • Be actively involved in the life of the church.

Accountabilities

This role is accountable to the Leadership Team of Lighthouse Community Church and to the Evangelical Covenant Church (Canadian Conference).
