Position Description

40-50% Role

ROLE SUMMARY: 

The Well desires to be a safe and engaging place for Youth and Young Adults to grow in their relationship with Christ and each other. To that end, the JR High Lead provides leadership to the Junior High youth (grades 6-8) and Jr High volunteer leader team, in collaboration with the Sr High Lead. They also assist with the oversight and leadership to the equipping of parents as primary influencers of faith in the home, alongside the Sr High Youth Lead. The Jr High lead will work alongside the Sr High Lead to build/sustain a youth ministry that successfully supports the discipleship and growth of young people and their families.

  • Passionate about seeing youth come to faith in Christ and grow into maturity in their adolescent and young adult years through a weekly youth program, small groups and intentional discipleship relationships

  • Capable of setting goals and developing plans
  • Healthy rhythm and practice of self care (spiritually, physically, emotionally, mentally)
  • Solidly rooted in the word of God

RESPONSIBILITIES

Youth

1. Oversee the leadership of the Friday Night Jr. High program, and site-specific bi-weekly Sunday morning Jr. High programs. This includes the oversight of:

  • JR High annual event and teaching calendar
  • Ensuring the teaching of age-appropriate curriculum
  • Working with a team of adult volunteer leaders:
    • Empowering, equipping and supporting Jr High youth leaders in their roles (in conjunction with Sr High Lead)
    • Regular communication to Jr high leaders with relevant information in a timely fashion
    • Recruiting new leaders as needed/able
  • Intentionally demonstrating leadership by personally discipling 3-4 Jr high youth (or a group of youth)
  • Empowering Jr high youth with opportunities to lead and serve others (e.g. at youth on Friday nights, Sunday services, and in the community)
  • Maintaining regular weekly communication with Jr high parents
  • Visitation for JR youth and families under the care of the church
  • Planning and execution of Jr high summer youth strategy (e.g. summer hangouts, special events, meet-ups, etc.)
  • Regular administrative duties: expense reports, JR youth directory, email lists, etc.

2. Assistance with the planning and execution of relevant Take It Home Events for JR youth/parents, in cooperation with SR High Lead (Rite of Passage in September, Baptism pre-Easter, Parent Night in the Spring)

3. Assisting the Family Ministry Pastor with recruiting and training for our Day Camp LITs

General

  • Participation in monthly Encounter prayer meetings (last Wednesday of the month)
  • Participation in a Home Group
  • Personal Development through reading, reflecting on ministry experiences
  • Regular (weekly or bi-weekly) check-in meetings with Sr. High Lead
  • Attendance and participation at weekly staff meetings (Tuesdays from 1-3pm)
