Position Description
Tyndale is a Christian university that prepares leaders for work in the private, public and not-for-profit sectors, ministry and the global mission of the church. Tyndale offers fully accredited programs in a wide range of disciplines at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Currently, there are over 1,600 students representing over 40 denominations and 60 ethnic backgrounds and over 13,000 alumni. Founded in 1894, Tyndale is located in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
Tyndale University invites candidates to apply for a full-time, non tenure track faculty position at the seminary.
POSITION DESCRIPTION
As an assistant professor of theology the faculty member will teach six courses per year, focusing on theology, both introductory and elective, in various formats. They will also maintain an active research agenda, contribute to theological scholarship, and participate in seminary committees and community life. Networking within the academic and church communities is essential, as is involvement in a local congregation. This position is expected to start on July 1, 2025.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Teaching, scholarship, and service comprise the three-fold responsibilities of all faculty members.
Teaching
- The faculty member will teach six courses per year in a variety of formats (in-person, synchronous online, asynchronous online).
- Core teaching responsibilities will include introductory systematic theology courses as well as electives covering a range of subjects (doctrines, theologians, issues), including the theology of the Reformation.
- This position may be required to teach at the undergraduate level.
- Model intellectual rigour in the classroom while also integrating theology with Christian life and ministry.
Research
- The faculty member will have an ongoing research agenda and engage the scholarly community through academic research and writing.
- This position will develop a body of published work that contributes to theological knowledge for the building up of the church.
Service
- The faculty member will participate fully in the academic and community life of the seminary including assigned departmental and committee work.
- This position will network with leaders in their field and forge linkages between the seminary, the academy, and the church.
- Participate in the life of a local congregation.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
- A PhD in systematic or historical theology. ABD candidates may be considered if they expect to complete before the appointment begins
- Primary or secondary expertise in the theology of the Reformation. Expertise in other areas will be an asset
Experience:
- Successful teaching experience, preferably in a seminary context
- Experience with a variety of teaching formats, including online delivery, with capacity to adapt and experiment with new approaches
- A record of publication, as appropriate for the stage of the applicant’s academic career
- Experience in either lay or ordained ministry
Skills and Abilities:
- Competency in teaching
- Able to communicate clearly, both orally and in writing
- Able to collaborate and work as a team
Personal Characteristics:
- Personal maturity and character
- Commitment to the church and the evangelical Protestant tradition, broadly conceived
- Familiarity with the Canadian context and awareness of the global church
- Intercultural sensitivity and an ability to relate to a diverse student body
- A collegial and collaborative disposition and desire to contribute to the life of the seminary
- Able to adapt successfully to changing situations & conditions
- Self-motivated "team player" who will take responsibility for his/her actions and work
- A passion for theological education and the desire to play a key role in attracting and preparing students for ministry
- A firm commitment to Tyndale’s mission, values, Statement of Faith and Community Standards

Salary Range: $65,000 - $77,000, commensurate with experience.
