Position Description

Position: Director of Christian Nurture and Formation
Supervision: Incumbent and Churchwardens
Role: To nurture and form Christians of all ages in the church

Core competencies:

  • Rich understanding of Christian faith and demonstrated excellence at nurturing, forming, and teaching a variety of ages
  • Warm, approachable, collaborative, and eager to engage newcomers and build new partnerships
  • Theological training is preferred

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee an inclusive and welcoming children and family ministry
  • Collaborate with clergy on ongoing Christian formation for adults, and those preparing for baptism and confirmation
  • Strengthen existing partnerships with schools and build new relationships with local institutions
  • Assist at Sunday liturgies as appropriate, including preaching
  • Explore opportunities for small-group ministry
  • Other duties as assigned by the Incumbent

Skills required:

  • Knowledge and experience in community-building and pastoral care
  • Strong interest in the spiritual growth and pastoral development of children and youth
  • The ability to work, plan, and pastor alone as well as in a team environment.
  • An understanding of oneself as a Christian role model.
  • Sensitivity to people of diverse backgrounds.

Remuneration: TBD – commensurate with experience and competitive with comparable positions

Terms of Work/Service:

  • 12-month contract with possibility of renewal
  • Approximately 35 hours per week although it may be necessary to work additional hours from time to time to meet job requirements.
  • Contract term vacation of two weeks, scheduled in consultation with the Incumbent. Not to be taken at festival times i.e. Advent, Lent or Holy Week.
