Position Description

Part-Time, $18/hour

BFM Foundation (Canada) is a national Christian organization with over 50 Mission Thrift Stores across Canada. The net revenue from all Mission Thrift Stores is devoted to the Joint Ministry of BFM Foundation (Canada) and Bible League Canada. These funds are used to establish adult literacy programs, provide church planter training, and children’s ministry programs, and distribute Bibles in many places worldwide.

The Production Assistant will

  • Receive, Organize, Assess & Price donated product
  • Help customers in donating, selecting, and purchasing store items;
  • Respond to customer’s questions;
  • Maintain the cleanliness and orderliness of the production area & store displays;
  • Operate and maintain a cash register

The position involves working respectfully and caring alongside volunteers, those with special needs, and a significant senior population.  A successful candidate will need to respect the culture of the store and its mission. You will be required to abide by the policies and procedures of BFM Brantford Enterprise Society.

Work hours are scheduled Monday- Saturday

QUALIFICATIONS

Experience
  • At least 1 year of retail or warehouse experience, including some cashier duties
  • Retail warehousing or receiving preferred
  • Experience with Thrift & Antiques & Re-sell markets preferred
  • Experience working with volunteers, seniors, or persons with various levels of ability
Skills

Must demonstrate the following skills:

  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Cash Handling
  • Good conflict resolution skills
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills; be able to solve problems with good judgment and make decisions independently
  • Effective verbal, written, and listening communication skills in English

Abilities
  • Knowledge of Health & Safety Protocols – Occupational Health & Safety Act of Ontario, AODA, and all other relevant regulations in a workplace.
  • Ability to take initiative
  • Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to repeatedly lift up to 50 lbs without assistance and 150 with assistance

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Receive, Organize, Prepare, Price, and Display donated items.
  • Maintain neat & current displays.
  • Maintain excellent donor relations through courteous and helpful interactions
  • Ensure that the receiving & sorting area is clean, clear, and meets safety standards
  • this will involve shoveling, sweeping, washing, dusting etc.
  • Assist in motivating volunteers to reach and exceed their full potential
  • Communicate in English clearly and effectively with volunteers and staff
  • Schedule customer pick-ups
  • Observe and report equipment or mechanical failures immediately, light maintenance
  • Monitor phone
  • Cross-train for other duties as assigned
  • Must be able to work Monday through Saturday as scheduled
