Position Description

The Family Ministry Pastor works to build and develop the overall Family Ministry in the Toronto Chinese Methodist Church with the emphasis on leading children and parents to grow into maturity as disciples of Jesus Christ.

Requirements and Qualifications

• M. Div. from a recognized seminary, majoring in pastoral/family ministry
• Passion for ministering to children and parents to build them up in our Lord
• Experience in working with children and parents
• Experience in leading children’s programs and family programs
• Fluency and proficiency in English, ability to speak in Cantonese and Mandarin is an asset
• A collaborative mindset
• Openness towards a multi-generational and multi-language Chinese church community environment
• Computer literacy including proficiency with Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

Job Description

• Overseeing and leading the Children’s Ministry in the following key areas: Sunday worship, annual summer camp, fellowship program, and other activities
• Nurturing the spiritual growth of children (12 and under) in partnership with parents, especially in leading children to know the Lord and training them to live as disciples
• Equipping parents to be actively involved in nurturing their children to grow as disciples
• Providing pastoral care and coaching for all children and their parents
• Training and equipping Children’s Ministry leaders and workers
• Developing opportunities for outreach and to welcome new children and families, including new families from overseas
• Developing family programs beneficial to the spiritual growth of families with children
• Working with the Senior Pastor and other pastors to organize intergenerational programs for different generations to worship and serve together
• Ministering to the families with children in partnership with the pastors and leaders of the Mandarin, English and Cantonese congregations
• Working with the English Pastor to ease the transition of children moving into the English Youth Ministry
• Completing all administrative tasks required
• The Family Ministry Pastor will work under the supervision of the Senior Pastor

• Begins with one-year contract, renewable after the first year
