Position Description
Position Summary:
Wallenstein Bible Chapel (WBC) is a growing church of about 800 people with two services on Sunday mornings. We are seeking an experienced individual (male or female) to serve as our Director of Congregational Care, providing spiritual care on behalf of the elders and coordinating our care ministries in collaboration with the Spiritual Care Leadership Team (SCLT).
Key Responsibilities:
1. Leadership and Oversight:
- Support and expand the congregational care ministry at WBC in alignment with our beliefs, vision and mission.
- Provide direction for the various care ministry teams at WBC in collaboration with the Spiritual Care Leadership Team.
- Initiate and oversee the equipping and training of volunteers to expand the church’s capacity for care.
2. Congregational Support:
- Serve as the first point of contact for care needs within the church family.
- Triage care needs and delegate or refer appropriately.
- Provide direct spiritual care, including one-on-one support, coaching, and prayer.
- Foster a culture of compassion and support within the church community.
3. Resource Management:
- Maintain organized records of care needs and ensure timely follow-up.
- Identify and connect members with appropriate external resources and /or services, including professional counseling services and social agencies, as needed.
Qualifications:
1. Education and Experience:
- A degree, certificate, or coursework in theology, ministry, counseling, or a related field.
- Proven experience in congregational care, chaplaincy, counseling, or other spiritual care roles.
- Experience leading teams, coordinating volunteers, and managing care-related programs.
2. Skills and Abilities:
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a proven ability to build trust and connect with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
- Ability to manage sensitive situations with confidentiality, discretion, and compassion.
- Familiarity with counseling techniques and referral processes for professional care when needed.
- Organizational skills and attention to detail would be an asset in this role
3. Character and Personal Qualities:
- A deep, active faith in Christ and familiarity with Scripture, aligned with the church’s beliefs and mission.
- A calling to serve others with a gift of care and a heart for ministry.
- Flexibility and adaptability in responding to urgent or evolving care needs.
- A strong listener with verbal and written communication skills, able to handle sensitive conversations compassionately.
4. Other requirements
- The role requires affirmation of the "WBC Family Commitment" as well as "Plan to Protect" qualification (for working with vulnerable individuals)
Working Conditions:
- Full-time position, with evening and weekend responsibilities.
- Requires the ability to travel locally for care-related activities, such as hospital visits and home care.
- Reports to the Teaching Pastor
About Wallenstein Bible Chapel:
Wallenstein Bible Chapel is a non-denominational church with roots in the brethren tradition. The church is led by a team of elders, with two of those elders serving as full-time pastors who provide oversight over the day-to-day operations. Located just west of Elmira, WBC draws most of its congregation from Elmira and the surrounding rural areas north and west of Kitchener/Waterloo.
