About Crane Lake Discovery Camp

Crane Lake Discovery Camp is a therapeutic wilderness camp for boys aged 10-15 near MacTier, Ontario. Our intensive program helps boys discover life skills for a better future. Since 2005, we have impacted the lives of over 200 boys in our summer camp. In 2023, we transitioned to a year-round program, opening our doors to boys who are not thriving in the traditional education system.

About this role

The Program Director is a leadership role in the camp, overseeing the therapeutic, educational program. His effective management ensures the program functions effectively, meeting its therapeutic goals.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees the therapeutic progress of campers, overseeing goal setting, trip planning, and participates in all evaluations and staff meetings.
  • Oversees the educational program, providing resources, direction, overseeing evaluations, compiling school portfolios of academic work, and serving as the primary contact with the Ministry of Education.
  • Supervises Counsellors and Group Work Supervisors, setting up schedules, leading meetings, and providing support as necessary.
  • Provides training for new program staff.
  • Provides spiritual leadership in Chuckwagon Program and Chapel (shared).
  • Business management – strategy, budget, scheduling, planning, training.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Mature dedicated Christian; spiritual leader.
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to analyze and assess program needs (including budgeting, strategy, calendar)
  • Ability to strategize and plan to facilitate the growth of the program.
  • Ability to oversee educational program (planning themes and lessons that creatively move individual campers forward in education).
  • Good interpersonal skills; sensitivity to the individual needs of people
  • Ability to train and supervise counsellors
  • Strong team player, ability to dialogue camper and program needs and work with a team to determine solutions.
  • Comfortable with conflict or tense discussions (with campers and staff)
  • Ability to project hope during difficult situations
  • Be able to work evenings and weekends to ensure program objectives are met
  • Assumes responsibilities on own initiative
